WebGPU is the last piece to allow Unity-WebXR exports to have good performance

Really good news for #WebGPU, and a good choice by Unity. I’ve recently had conversations with Google engineers regarding WebGPU support for #WebXR. It’s still off in the distance, but it’s coming. It’s time to start building with WebGPU to create demand to flesh out the spec to accelerate adoption.

The next stage is how to create a sensible remedy. The abuse of walled garden building ( aka App Store legal and technical restrictions imposed by Google and Apple) now have to be remediated. The decade + of abuse has altered the interoperability of the web. Taking down the walls of the gardens is not enough though. The harm has been to interoperability. Now interoperability between and among websites is needed for the open nature of the web to function. It was intended to be a decentralised and competitive space. Open interfaces are needed. Browser abuse needs to stop. Interference with interoperability between websites needs to be addressed. Just banning App Store restrictions won’t be enough to enable open web apps. For those that say clocks can’t be turned back, it’s worth thinking about how they can be made to work better.

Reading Banjo Obayomi''s breakdown -- it reminds me of the earlier methods of generating deep fake images/videos (pitting a scrutinizing AI against the origin AI where the image/video is the game and the final rendering is the result -- aka who wins). Outside of just having the AI build a faster leaner AI of what it learned and defaulting to that -- I wonder if the latency and hallucinations can be further reduced with additional pre-planning steps within the AI (in this case #Bedrock). So not just ingesting game state data, player move types, move executions, but begins optimizing itself by creating a temporal gating network to limit certain parts of the corpus within the LLM (effectively pruning it). The gating network could be tokenized, serving both as a soft boundary for the duration of the game, but also to help reorganize the selective areas of the corpus in a more hierarchical knowledge structure conducive to gameplay. Within that gated area, you could then introduce a set of attention mechanisms (for gaming of course) that could introduce more cheaper sparser attention concepts, column/row optimizations, and deduplication of common inference requests. Kinda like changing your WRX to Sport mode. Ikuze! 😎

Two games, sold at a 75% and 50% discount respectively, appeared on the platform overnight, and were both renamed from already existing games on Steam to match the publisher, developer and description of Helldivers 2. Valve has now removed all of the fake games from their platform, with a Discord message confirming that Valve “acted very swiftly after we reached out”. “People posting as us trying to scam people is obviously very sad and frustrating, and for that as well as security reasons we urge you to stay clear of them. Again, the only two Helldivers 2 products we market are Helldivers 2 and Helldivers 2 Super Citizen Edition,” Arrowhead’s community manager wrote on the official Discord server for the game. It’s something that we’re continuously evolving based on what’s happening in the game. And as part of the roadmap, there are things we want to keep secret because we want to surprise and delight,” Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt said in an interview. New Post: ‘Palworld’ will feature cross-platform play “as soon as possible” - https://lnkd.in/gw8d89gE - Developers of Palworld have confirmed they’re working on adding cross-platform play to the open-world survival crafting game “as soon as possible”. READ MORE: Pocketpair Inc’s CEO: “We don’t want ‘Palworld’ to be beautiful and perfect. We want to inject elements of darker themes, including exploitation and violence” Palworld entered Early Access today (January 19) and during a Q+A with fans on Discord, Pocketpair revealed they’re still working hard on making the game bigger and more communal. “Palworld will continue to be updated during and after early access,” they explained, with a roadmap due in the coming days. They also confirmed that while Palworld doesn’t currently support crossplay between PC, Xbox and Steam, “we are working to make this a possibility as soon as possible!” The Q+A also confirmed that “PC Game Pass can not play with Steam until crossplay is added” and while there are currently no plans for a PS5 launch, Pocketpair “will consider it during development”. While PvP will be implemented in a future update, Palworld currently has multiplayer support. “Invite a friend and go on an adventure together! And of course you can battle your friends and trade Pals too,” reads the Steam description. “In online co-op play mode, up to 4 players can play together. Additionally, a dedicated server can allow up to 32 players to play together,” with that set to increase in the future. Announced at Indie World Expo 2021, Palworld is an open-world creature collection sandbox game, with cute Pals available to collect, trade, battle, work or ride. “In a harsh environment where food is scarce and vicious poachers roam, danger waits around every corner. To survive, you must tread carefully and make difficult choices…even if that means eating your own Pals when the time comes.” “Pokémon definitely inspired us, but Palworld is far more action-orientated in comparison,” Pockepair CEO Takuro Mizobe told NME shortly after the game was announced. “In terms of the darker elements, we want to leave those decisions up to players. READ MORE: ‘Elden Ring’ review: Miyazaki’s masterpiece exceeds every expectation The Shadow Of Erdtree expansion for Elden Ring was first announced in February 2023 but since then, details have been scarce. In December, rumours that the expansion would be ready in time for The Game Awards were quickly shut down.  “It’ll be a little while yet, but progress is going well,” said producer Yasuhiro Kitao before comparing the DLC to Bloodborne and confirming that it will feature “new battles and new characters.” He added that FromSoftware’s ethos has always been to “work diligently to create something interesting and valuable.” However in January, a number of mysterious files were unearthed in Elden Ring’s Steam listing that suggested a launch was imminent. However that has since been dismissed by FromSoftware’s parent company Kadokawa. As part of their quarterly financial report, Kadokawa shared a FAQ section about Elden Ring that read : “We are currently working hard on the development of DLC for Elden Ring but we have not announced a release date at this time.” “Various measures are currently in progress for Elden Ring, including the development of major DLC, to maximise lifetime value,” the section continued. Elden Ring was originally released February 2022. In a five-star review, NME wrote: “FromSoftware’s most ambitious title yet, Elden Ring is a glowing spectacle of achievement. A refined open-world format adds unimagined wonder to the game, whilst legacy dungeons will likely go down as some of FromSoftware’s best level design. Beyond that, there are so many improvements to the Souls formula that make this an essential play for fans – this is a game that brings so much to the table, yet somehow leaves nothing out.” In other news, Helldivers 2 has become Sony’s biggest PC launch, with a record-breaking number of concurrent players on Steam.
