I made the announcement internally a few weeks ago, and I’m ready now to announce externally that I have opted to retire from Intel as of September 30! This decision did not come lightly; it came through a lot of lists, spreadsheets, and thoughtful discussions with colleagues, friends, and family. I have “grown up” at Intel over the last 28yrs and honestly, it’s hard for me to envision not walking through those doors or popping into a virtual meeting with some of the world’s smartest and most driven people to solve the latest challenge. Intel has been such a BIG part of my life, and I have given my blood, sweat, and tears to this company. In return, it has given me a paid, formal education, many development opportunities through various cohorts and peer groups, an amazing career with endless opportunities to learn/grow/develop, the opportunity to work with amazing humans from different countries and cultures (and sometimes visit them in person!), life-long friends, a husband 😊, and so much more. As I turn the page to this new chapter, I carry with me a treasure trove of memories, experiences, and friendships that have shaped who I am today. The camaraderie, the early-morning/late-night meetings, the triumphant moments after successfully tackling a project, and even the occasional setbacks that taught us resilience – each of these has left an indelible mark on my heart. With that said, I have decided to take the plunge to take some time off and eventually pursue other interests and opportunities (after I dust off my resume and LinkedIn profile!). I am confident Intel will succeed because we have the right strategy being executed by some of the best and brightest people around the world. I am excited about what the future holds, both for Intel and for myself. While I look forward to enjoying some rest and relaxation, exploring new hobbies, and spending time with family and friends, I will always cherish the moments we've shared and the lessons I've learned there. As I bid farewell, I want to express my deepest gratitude for the support, inspiration, and friendship over the years. Saying goodbye to my Intel Family is bittersweet. But as the saying goes, "Every new beginning comes from some other beginning’s end…" Cheers to the future!

::tap-tap-tap:: Is this on? How does this LinkedIn thing work? 😁 First post for my last post as an Intel Employee. Just beyond a total of 18 years at the Intel Corporation, Folsom Campus, I've made the bittersweet decision to separate from Intel. Intel was my first choice-job after graduating UC Davis. As a young college-graduate, I would have never predicted the volumes of challenges, achievements, and impact we've made together as a company. I'm so grateful for the opportunities and trust put in me. But, this chapter has an end. My favorite metaphor to describe one's career is the 'rollercoaster'. 1. Make considerations as to which rollercoaster to get on 2. Weigh the options and make a choice 3. Load up, strap in, and accept the decision made 4. It goes in every direction possible, from the anxious rise to the top, and exhilarating drop, the ups and downs, the twists and turns! 5. Through the ride it's fun, it's stressful, it's exciting, it's exhausting 6. We laugh, we scream, we smile, we "wooo!" 7. Finally, the inevitable end What-a-ride!!! It's not really the end, is it? We realize there are other rollercoasters at the park ... then it starts all over at "1", and can we ride that 'coaster again? Let's see 😊 Cheers, Intel! When I started in ‘92 with Nortel Networks, I seem to recall big blue was still the company of life time employment. I had a stellar ride at Nortel working on ASiCs and boards and software for class 5ESS switches over 9 years. It was a wonderful Canadian company with brilliant people from WW. As the ‘00-‘02 telecom bust took hold, 60,000+ Nortel colleagues were fired. I watched the callous firing of one colleague in competitive marketing. HR watched her be terminated by phone and refused any courtesy or decency. I helped her put her boxes on a table and take to a car and leave in pouring rain. I hope my French Canadian colleague has flourished since that experience. I’ve decided to not retire and stay with Intel. It is the greatest company I’ve worked for with incredibly bright people. As a senior LI-ian, having seen innumerable layoffs, I say to young people: - Have a full and bright life. Family first and work second. - work is not your family. Avoid calls of work as family and treat colleagues as professional friends. I have friends from my career but at work they are colleagues not friends - Intel, except for rogue employees along the way, was built on societal ethics and morals as a compass. I have not a single work action that would make my family embarrassed or ashamed of me. - We owe nothing to our employers other than fair work for market pay. When the contract ends, leave with pride on your contributions as a work citizen. If pay is not fair you must leave and find a better situation to protect your value. - treat all with kindness and respect as if your mom and dad are watching over your shoulder. - keep learning. I get bored roughly in two years in any job. Time to do something new as turning the crank in a job can quick reduce your value. - I love this post from John Yates as a final approach. I am retiring from Intel effective today. February 6, 1989, I joined as Intel's U.S. employee #51302 - a company with just over 21,000 employees. The Annual report that year heralds the drive to upgrade the industry to 32 bits offering both the i486 and i860 to help: https://lnkd.in/g7rWBQRD Since then, my desire to make computers go FAST and FASTER let me be a part of many projects, including two #1 ranked supercomputers, and one #2 ranked supercomputer. Most important of all, were all the fellow employees that I was privileged to work along side, and many others in the industry with whom I had the privilege to collaborate. Some of those collaborations led to the more than a dozen technical books that I helped create. Life is an ongoing journey of learning and discovery, and I am grateful to Intel and my colleagues for enriching my experience and helping me grow enormously along the way. Bittersweet as leaving is, I am extraordinarily happy to be embarking on a real retirement now. I hope to see many of my former colleagues in the future, some of whom will reminisce with me on the Intel I joined - before the internet (yes, we had ARPAnet), before email (as far as most of the world knew), before PowerPoint, before online calendars, and before connecting people with smartphones. How did we survive? While these statements might make me sound old; just like stories I used to hear of life before electricity, indoor plumbing, automobiles, telephones, and highways; I will point out that change is coming faster than ever - and we've only scratched the surface of what’s to come (good and bad). It’s a thought that brings me hope, as we all have a role in shaping a better future. My love for Star Trek has always stemmed from the belief that technology should enhance our future; we must continue to guide it in that direction. I cherish technology and firmly believe that our contributions have made the world a slightly better place. Go Blue!

As I celebrate what feels like my professional bar mitzvah (13 incredible years at Intel), I believe it's time to leave the nest. ➡️ I want to express my deepest gratitude to this amazing company for taking a chance on a young engineer with no experience in the semiconductor industry, trusting me to lead a team of practical engineers in manufacturing the cutting-edge 22nm technology. For giving me the freedom to explore, learn, and develop myself in any direction I chose. For teaching me that even the toughest disagreements can be resolved over a cup of coffee. ➡️ I had the privilege to learn from the best engineers, scientists, and managers, but most importantly, I found a second home here, surrounded by dear friends. 🏠 ➡️ Even now, as the company faces challenging times, it asks its people to step up, offering generous voluntary separation packages, fully aware it will lose some of the most experienced professionals in the industry (and I humbly count myself among them). ➡️ As I leave behind the maze of cubicles and the cleanest air in the FAB, I look ahead with confidence. 🌟Reflecting on My Journey at Intel🌟 Before I switch out the blue banners and announce the next phase in my career journey I wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude to Intel. Over my 7+ years at Intel I have transformed over and over and spent the most rewarding time in my career, working with amazing people on innovative technology that impacts millions. Here’s what I’m most thankful for: INTEGRITY: Intel has consistently been one of the “good guys.” Their commitment to integrity resonates throughout the company, its products, and its relationships with customers. This is foundational to everything I will ever do in my career. Having said that, I must admit their exit process was hard on me and many others but I recognize perfection is tough to come by in trying times. AMAZING PEOPLE: Forget AI — People are what truly matter! Trust and collaboration are the driving forces behind remarkable products. It has been an absolute joy to work with talented, friendly, and driven colleagues who believe in the products and fostering growth in others. I cherish my Intel colleagues and mentors always! GROWTH: Intel’s culture encourages open conversations about career aspirations. All I needed to do was raise my hand and be willing to take chances and I was supported by thoughtful managers who believed in me: a sabbatical coverage to work on Board of Directors strategy, taking on the AI/ML business plan and making the move from finance to product marketing to own the Entry laptop CPUs and 14th gen Desktop execution— it has been quite the journey! FAMILY: When Intel talks about “bringing your true self,” it's not just talk. Just before joining as a new hire, my daughter was born and spent 7 weeks in intensive care. Intel’s HR allowed me to take bonding leave before my official start date, so that I could relocate and settle in with my daughter. I will never forget what that meant for our family. Intel also offers family friendly benefits, flexible work options that just made life easier, so I could focus on what truly matters both at work and at home. 🌟Onward to New Horizons: As Intel embarks on its next chapter with the Intel Foundry and Intel Products model, I wish them the very best. To those in recent contact, no surprise I'm taking Intel's early retirement package. In its time of need, Intel determined a primary cause of revenue/expense imbalance is an overabundance of employees. As a result, they offered a lovely package that many (myself included ) found compelling. I'm very thankful for my 29 years of learning and growing with Intel (and the preceding 7 years with Micron & Cypress). To augment Dickens' quote - "It was the {mostly} best of times, it was the {infrequent} worst of times." Those many best of times were characterized (perhaps contrarily) by long hours, intense task forces, and working on tough, important problems. The infrequent worst? Characterized self-serving leaders and managers. Thankfully I've suffered few in my long tenure. I regret not being able to continue contributing to the Intel turnaround effort. I am, however, happy to take the offer and help with the imbalance! 😉  I will be cheering from the sidelines as the remaining employees strive (and strain) to reclaim the crown of semiconductor manufacturing excellence. I retain a very high conviction in the turnaround plans, and Pat Gelsinger leadership. My future plans don't include "real" work at this time. I reserve the right to change my mind but I have a lot of activities & people I'm excited to engage. #IamIntel #IamIntelRetired
