I’d get back to you, but that didn’t happen…. Who was I kidding? This has been Bukola’s struggle since she finished her National Youth Service Corps in 2022. She has applied to various firms as a Graduate Intern, Front Desk, and Administrative Assistant. In fact, the list goes on… She often gets called for interviews because she studied Office Management and Administration in school. Her mum assists her by providing transportation to these interviews and ensuring she has the clothes to look smart. The interviews usually go well, raising her hopes. But two weeks later, she receives a call or an email stating that she couldn’t be hired because she didn’t possess the relevant skills. She would have given up if not for her mum, who keeps encouraging her. She lamented all this to her friend Debo. Debo said, “Most of the time, we focus more on our outward appearance, neglecting the inside. Five companies you went to, Bukola, said the same thing about skills. Why haven’t you learned a skill, even if it’s online?” Bukola was silent. Debo continued, “If you want something, you need to be fully equipped for it. Sadly, this is the situation of most graduates out there today. There are skills you can learn without necessarily having to break the bank. Prime Innovation Institute Of Technology and Aptech Ajah Centre are organizing free cybersecurity training this month, and I know you haven’t registered. Yet you want to apply as a Cybersecurity expert. Before they send you back, come and equip yourself for free.” Click https://lnkd.in/dFC7ewFd for details Please repost; someone on your feed might need this training.

The SANS Institute #new2cyber Summit was an amazing experience for me. Yesterday I heard from so many educated individuals which was refreshing, inspiring, awakening, so to speak. I was mesmerized by the storytelling and appreciated the diverse background that was shared through these different stories. I wasn’t sure what to expect out of this free full day event that I could access from the comfort of my home, but I am so grateful to run into each and every opportunity given to me.. With that said, here are some of the highlights from my perspective after hearing astounding speakers. Highlights: Imposter syndrome can be a formidable barrier, but it's conquerable. My approach? Dive deep into the domain, ask questions, and foster curiosity. Understanding the 'why' behind professionals' journeys helps in shaping my own path and igniting my fire within. Speaking the language of cybersecurity is paramount. Mastering the lingo, jargon, and acronyms establishes credibility and facilitates seamless communication within the tribe. Building connections is essential. Becoming part of a tribe not only provides support but also opens doors to opportunities and growth. Tracking progress is key. LinkedIn serves as my platform to document milestones, share insights, and expand my network. Recognizing that everything is social engineering underscores the importance of understanding human behavior in the cybersecurity realm, from deception detection to career motivations. Continuous learning is non-negotiable. Whether it's leadership training or mastering technical skills, investing in oneself pays dividends in career progression. Creating opportunities is essential. From joining cybersecurity clubs to taking on projects, proactive engagement accelerates learning and opens doors. Choosing the right job is critical. Finding a role where I can thrive is paramount to staying aligned with my career goals. Cybersecurity isn't just about technical prowess; it's about safeguarding both privacy and security. Recognizing the nuances between the two is crucial in addressing risks effectively. Transitions are possible. Programs like the HPE Reboot Program provide avenues for career switches into cybersecurity, leveraging transferable skills and fostering inclusivity. Breaking barriers and uplifting others is a mission. As a woman in cybersecurity, I aim not only to succeed but also to empower and mentor others on their journey. Sharing knowledge is a responsibility. Starting a blog or website to curate resources and share insights ensures that the community continues to grow and thrive. In the journey toward cybersecurity excellence, persistence is key. Projects may be challenging, but perseverance pays off in building skills. Happy Friday 😁 #Cybersecurity #CareerDevelopment #ImposterSyndrome #Empowerment

#my3MTT #3MTTweeklyreflection #3MTTAnambra Weekly Reflection: Week 6 The knowledge gained from modules such as ENGLISH FOR IT 1 and ENGLISH FOR IT 2 has proven invaluable. These courses have equipped me with essential skills in crafting phrases, clauses, adjectives, and adverbs that are vital for effective workplace communication. Such communication plays a critical role in interactions between supervisors and subordinates, vendors and service agents, as well as among team members. Within IT departments, effective communication is pivotal. It fosters clarity, promotes collaboration, facilitates problem-solving, ensures efficient project management, encourages knowledge sharing, aligns activities with business goals, and enhances engagement with clients and stakeholders. Furthermore, it nurtures adaptability to changes in the dynamic IT environment. By investing in communication skills and nurturing a culture of effective communication, IT departments can significantly enhance their overall performance and success. Additionally, the insights gained from a webinar on "volunteering" have opened my eyes to the myriad opportunities available across various aspects of life. Volunteering offers numerous advantages, such as personal growth, skill development, networking opportunities, and the satisfaction of contributing to community or organizational goals. It can also provide valuable experience that complements professional development and enhances one's resume. Expectation from 3MTT in the coming week Looking ahead, I anticipate the next week's continuation of training on cyber security in the 3MTT program. This ongoing training promises to deepen my understanding of critical cybersecurity concepts and practices, equipping me with essential skills to contribute effectively in securing digital environments.

📣 We Were All Junior Once 📣 At CybAid, we believe that passion for helping make Cyber Security accessible to the #charity and #SME sectors is what makes our volunteers, not their experience. Therefore, we seek to involve junior and entry-level professionals in the work we do, in the following ways: 💡 Shadowing: Where possible, we ask our junior volunteers to shadow our volunteers, and assist them in supporting the organisations we work with. This can be a fantastic opportunity to build experience, and see examples of how to lead on projects- and they always have great ideas too! 💡 Content Development: Junior professionals usually have some of the most up-to-date knowledge of best-practice, and we want to use their expertise to build our brand, and support the sectors we work within. That's why you'll see our website populated with blogs from a variety of professionals of varying experience levels over the coming months. 💡 Facilitating Connections When we work with volunteers who are looking to get into #cyber, or are building their careers, we often discuss where they'd like to go in their journeys, and we want to support that. Where we can, we connect junior professionals with those doing what they'd like to do, to share advice, and build relationships that may become opportunities later down the line. If you're a junior professional looking to work with us, please get in touch at [email protected] , or if you'd like to share ideas on how we can further support, let us know!
