Let’s Talk Legacy I can’t tell you how many times we’ve had applications for housing, only to have to tell people they don’t have SDA funding to move. This is heartbreaking, because the wait time can exceed 6 months! (Although it shouldn’t!) Understanding that if someone received SDA in their plan automatically, means they need to go through the entire process if they want to move, sets people’s expectations and understanding, to know they realistically need 3-6 months to go through functional capacity assessments and complete home and living applications Reach out if you have legacy housing or if you or your participant would like to explore the option of moving to new SDA stock

Since 2023, the MAX team on the Gold Coast has partnered with Primary & Community Care Services Ltd (PCCS) to give Disability Employment Services (DES) customers access to health services such as mental health support, social participation groups and support from social workers. MAX DES Team Leader Lisa Naera works closely with DES customers and has observed that during these tough economic times,   “Financial stress is a common factor that contributes to a decline in an individual’s health and well-being and people needing support. Through working together, PCCS and MAX can assist in improving the welfare of our customers.” Eligible customers can also get assistance with NDIS applications through PCCS. The PCCS Service Specialists we collaborate with meet with our customers and the MAX team once a month in person. Lisa explains that this has been an effective way for both MAX and PCSS to work together to support customers: “Customers have the knowledge and support to utilise every service available to them. They have insight into services that are provided by MAX and PCCS and we all have a better understanding of what is required to best help the customer.” This collaborative approach of combining the broad services provided by PCCS and MAX’s individualised employment support ultimately creates better outcomes for everyone.
