Vladimir Vykoukal is in his second week as an intern at IFG Asota. Since so much of IFG's strategy focuses on sustainability, we asked Vladimir his thoughts on the subject. Here's what he had to say: "During my internship at IFG, I am currently working on a Sustainability Promotion Project. These days, "sustainability" is often overused and is used in a lot of marketing campaigns of big companies. For me personally, it is important that it is not just a marketing strategy, but that the company really follows a sustainable path. There is no doubt that climate change is a real thing, and we need to act to prevent it. It is not an issue that could be solved by one person alone, it requires collective effort. While consumers can make a difference by sorting waste, choosing eco-friendly products, and reducing energy and water usage, a lot can also be changed by businesses. I`ve been really impressed by what IFG is doing to be more sustainable. The R&D team is continuing to come up with more sustainable innovations. IFG is using more and more recycled and bio-based materials in their production. It’s important that companies are starting to apply changes like this. Now, these actions seem complicated, they may be more expensive or time consuming, but in the future they will be worth it." We look forward to more thoughts from Vladimir as his internship continues over the following weeks. Simon Riepler Andreas Weinberger Richard Barker-Poole

🌍 Sustainability in Business: More Important Than Ever 🌱 In today's business world, sustainability is not just a trend, but a necessity. Companies must acknowledge their environmental impact to thrive in the long term. Having a clear and transparent approach to sustainability reporting is crucial in driving responsible change and fostering trust among stakeholders. This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to intern at EcoVadis, a leader in business sustainability ratings. During my time as a Carbon Research Intern, I worked with an amazing team of professionals dedicated to promoting sustainability across industries. EcoVadis assesses the environmental and social performance of companies, empowering businesses to improve their sustainability practices through data-driven insights. Throughout my internship, I gained valuable knowledge in carbon accounting and reporting, and had the chance to delve into internationally recognized standards such as SBTi, CDP, GRI, and SASB. I also learned the importance of standardizing carbon reporting, as varying regulations across countries can lead to inconsistencies and even greenwashing—an issue that needs to be addressed with careful scrutiny. Though my experience was brief, it was incredibly rewarding. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to learn, grow, and contribute to a company that is paving the way for a more sustainable future. I would like to thank the entire team for their support during the internship Mei Butler Julia S. Arianna Patrizi Quentin Fornezzo Vladimir Guzmán Contreras (he/him) Felipe Albigiante Palazzi Daphne Lilli Yu Jie Law Sukaina Fatimah and Julia. 🙏 💜 #Sustainability #CarbonAccounting #InternshipExperience #EcoVadis #SBTi #CDP #GRI #SASB #Standardization #BusinessSustainability #CarbonReporting

I’ve just completed my second week in the Terra.do Corporate Sustainability Leadership Accelerator, and I am grateful to be part of this summer’s cohort! 💡 Founded by Anshuman Bapna, Kamal Kapadia, and Mayank Jain, Terra.do is on a mission to mobilize a global community to fight climate change. They have created a platform that provides an upskilling opportunity for professionals seeking to further their expertise and experience in a variety of topics essential for tackling climate change. Some of these topics include product and decarbonization strategies, carbon removal technologies and risks, finance, carbon accounting, corporate climate reporting standards, ESG essentials, and many more topics. 🌳 I have had a great time being enrolled in the Corporate Sustainability Leadership Accelerator led by Dr. Janice Lao, an internationally awarded environmental scientist and economist who has worked in corporate sustainability for 20 years (and is a great teacher)! This 8-week course covers the essential skills required for a corporate sustainability professional, allowing fellows to obtain hands-on project experience in materiality assessments, carbon accounting, life cycle analysis, sustainability reporting, and corporate sustainable design. It has been a pleasure meeting others who share my goal of making a positive impact in corporate sustainability, and I look forward to the next 6 weeks of continued upskilling and community building. ✏ Over the past two weeks we covered materiality assessments which are essential for prioritizing corporate sustainability efforts, and I gained experience developing an introductory double materiality assessment. I also had the chance to sharpen my carbon accounting skills by calculating Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions of sample companies. I was first introduced to greenhouse gas emission calculations in a corporate sustainability internship with Intel Corporation in 2022, so it has been refreshing to revisit this topic and gain further experience. 🔽 Check down below in the comments for a link to the Terra.do website where you can browse their expansive library of courses that may suit your interests. I highly recommend checking them out if you are looking to deepen your expertise in climate change and sustainability or are looking to shift your career in the direction of climate action! #climatechange #climateaction #corporatesustainability

🌿 Beware of Greenwashing! 🌿 In today’s eco-conscious market, it's more important than ever to stay informed about the products we choose. 🛍️ Greenwashing—the practice of making an untrue or misleading claim about the environmental benefits of a product, service, or company—misleads consumers who prefer to support genuine sustainable efforts. 🚫🌱 Let's be conscious consumers and hold companies accountable for their environmental impact. Share this message to spread awareness and encourage others to make informed choices. 💪🌍 Thanks to Ms.Yashashvi, for creating this video as a part of her Internship Assignment #EcoFriendly #SustainableLiving #GreenwashingAwareness

🌍 Sustainability in Product Management: Key to Long-term Success 🌿 It has been a wonderful internship experience so far with Hilton Top Solicitors🤭. I particularly love this session, maybe because I advocate for sustainability but also because of the speaker's wealth of knowledge and how he broke each aspect of the topic to understandable bits. The session featured Oluwaseun Adekanbi, a seasoned Product Manager, who highlighted the crucial role of Sustainable Project Management in the Digital Economy. In a world where environmental and cultural resources are receding, sustainability must be at the forefront of innovation. According to Mr. Adekanbi, when products are developed, their relevance in both local and global markets relies on sustainable practices. Aligning product innovation with environmental, social, and economic goals ensures responsible growth, long-term value, and resilience in a competitive market. Some key strategies discussed include: - 🌱 Eco-friendly packaging - 🌍 Community engagements - 🤝 Transparency and communication He also shared real-life examples of companies leading the way in sustainability: - Unilever: Reducing environmental footprint through minimized packaging and sustainable palm oil sourcing. - Tesla: Pioneering the use of sustainable materials and renewable energy in product development. Sustainability isn't just an ethical choice—it's a smart business strategy. 🌟 #Sustainability #ProductManagement #Innovation #DigitalEconomy #EcoFriendly #CircularEconomy #HTSVIMP

When talking about complex and nuanced environmental issues, it is crucial to engage stakeholders so you can consider the range of people who will be impacted. Kudos to our summer intern, Jade Devriendt, who developed this infographic to explain some of the many stakeholder interests around menhaden–a small but critically important species that creates a huge ripple effect throughout the ecosystem and the economy. What other menhaden stakeholders would you add? #stakeholderengagement #environmentalcommunication #menhaden

Bridging the gap with Technology: AtmosWatch 🌳 🕵♂️ My summer internship, provided me with firsthand insights into the development of AtmosWatch, a digital monitoring and reporting tool designed for project developers and investors, specifically tailored to accommodate the intricacies of remote locations. Although AtmosWatch marks a significant stride towards an inclusive and transparent future, the journey is far from over. To truly bridge the transparency gap, we must persist in exploring and championing innovative solutions that empower communities which are at the forefront of sustainability endeavors and climate change fights. Our focus should be on constructing bridges, not barriers, as we aspire towards a sustainable future that illuminates every corner of the globe. Delving into my discourse on transparency and accessibility, I would like to share the 2020 findings presented in "Transparency in global sustainability governance: to what effect?" by Aarti Gupta, Ingrid Boas, and Peter Oosterveer. The research underscores the contested nature of transparency in environmental governance and emphasizes the necessity of designing effective transparency systems. Articles within the special section provide a nuanced exploration of the interplay between transparency, accountability, empowerment, and effectiveness in environmental governance. A critical aspect highlighted in the research is the evolving dynamics of commodity chain transparency and the ramifications of emerging forms of digitalized transparency. In our quest for a sustainable future, it is vital to recognize the transformative potential of transparency within increasingly complex environmental governance contexts. The research underscores the need to scrutinize the relationship between transparency and trust, as well as the implications of the era of 'radical,' digitally enabled transparency. In conclusion, the journey toward sustainability demands a steadfast commitment to transparency that transcends mere rhetoric. The transparency gap, particularly prevalent in remote communities, necessitates innovative solutions that harmonize tradition and technology. While AtmosWatch is a compelling exemplar of such a solution, the road ahead requires sustained exploration and advocacy. Let us envision a future where transparency is not a privilege but a universal right, accessible to all, as we collectively strive for a greener and more sustainable world. Let us remember: that transparency must be accessible and inclusive 💞

Bri DeLeon, an #OASEIntern at the Oregon Coast Aquarium, writes: The first half of my internship at the Oregon Coast Aquarium has focused on identifying their most common sources of plastics and investigating sustainable alternatives. One key area for plastics is laundry. Since the Aquarium does a large quantity of laundry daily, I have been experimenting with two microfiber filters. Microfibers are the most predominant type of microplastic found in our oceans and have damaging health impacts on marine ecosystems. In addition to these filters, we have researched alternative glove disposal options and reusable dishware in our cafe! In the coming weeks, I hope to continue experimenting with different alternatives and determine the most effective options to recommend. Additionally, crafting a guidance document that the Aquarium staff and volunteers can utilize to accomplish their plastic reduction goals! Bri is participating in the Oregon Applied Sustainability Experience: Internship Program, which is run by Oregon Sea Grant and the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality. Learn about the program at bit.ly/OASEinternship. #pollutionprevention
