Should have made this clear, the invitation to send ideas where my voice may add value is to all members, but as immportantly all staff. To all team Leaders, if you or your teams have a subject where you think I can add value, convince your CX thats the case and get them to email me.
Happy to share that I have been appointed as a Vice President of the LGA. Great to have an official (although given my age a much more sedate) role back in 18 Smith Square. Having started there as a whipper snapper on one of the boards, then Chairman of a board then Vice Chairman of the firm, then senior VC then Chairman. Although I am a Conservative group appointment, in the best traditions of the LGA I am happy to take on any issues that benefit (but not harm) the local government sector as a whole or specific bits of it. All types of council and all groups of councillors, if you think I can make a noise in the HoL to make a bit of a differance, send an email through. I can’t promise to take it on, but I do promise to take a look to see if I think I can add value.

I've switched careers a couple of times. If you change careers, my advice is recognize that you need to learn a lot and then go deep into learning it, S. Scott Mason, about what you need for your new path. For example, I needed to raise capital for a company I founded so I read the entire state and federal legal code on securities. The result? I was able to intelligently work with our attorney to help him draft our Reg D offering documents. The business ran into trouble. Our investors wanted to sue us. Why didn't they? Because the documents they signed were too good. An investor, who was also an attorney, told me, “Tell your attorney he did a great job of drafting these documents.” I didn't tell him that I drafted all of the key parts that protected us. Later, my business partner said, “Thank you for keeping me out of jail.” The business failed, but creating documents correctly protected us. All because I went deep to learn what I needed to have success in my new venture. S. Scott Mason, thanks for the inspiration for this post. I'd love to learn how others thrived after a career change! #cashflowguru #startups #investing Cash is Clear™

Meet the bass player of the band 🎸 She will not take centre stage, but without her, you’d immediately notice something’s missing – the music simply wouldn’t have its foundation. That’s exactly how it felt working with Aditi Singh at Dalberg. Whether you needed the key insight to a piece of analysis or were staying back late to perfect a slide deck, Aditi was there with you. We even elected her our ombudsperson owing to the grace with which she helped us understand each other. She led not just by her competence but by holding space and helping us synchronise. Aditi showed her versatility across genres — transitioning from corporate law to management consulting for social impact, and most recently, earning a PhD (with distinction) from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Join us as she shares the backstage reality of "endlessly pivoting" (as she calls it) in her career — from lawyer to international development consultant to PhD student — at WIP's next LinkedIn vs. Reality fireside chat. Expect a mix of insights, challenges, and the unexpected twists in her journey — the bum notes, unfinished choruses, and odd bridges. 📅 Date: Friday, 1st March 🕙 Time: 10 AM GMT | 3:30 PM IST We’re opening 25 spots. Your journey is truly inspiring! It's a powerful reminder that success isn't limited by age or formal education. Keep breaking barriers and inspiring others! #youngprofessional #genz #breakingbarriers #ProfessionalDevelopment #futurelawyer
I started working at a Magic Circle Law Firm at 21. I was at the time one of the youngest people in the firm. I joined with no degree, my three A-levels and experience working part-time for an ed tech company. After seeing Oscar Hoyle’s post (do check it out) around perception of age and ability I knew I had to share my experience. The stereotype between age, ability and education really does baffle me; more importantly it discourages people’s ambition. The reality is that success doesn’t have to be a degree. Without a degree at 21 I was: - Managing six figure budgets for programmes; - Assisting with Facilitating professional development talks for clients; - Co-Chairing a committee at the firm to steer change on a topic I’m passionate about. So, next time you question someone’s ability due to their age and experience - take a look at myself. #youngprofessional #genz

Labor and Employment Attorney | DEI Champion | Client Centered | Solutions Oriented | Labor Law Enthusiast
"Own your role here, Jess." These empowering words marked my first one-on-one meeting with my lead counsel, a pivotal discussion centered around taking ownership of my position as an attorney. In that candid conversation, I laid out my career aspirations and sought valuable guidance on navigating the path ahead. As we embark on a new year, I encourage everyone to pause and reflect on their career aspirations. A piece of invaluable advice I received came from a senior leader at my company, sharing insights from his transition from big law to the prosecutor's office. What resonated deeply was his commitment to documenting goals and plans in a notebook—a practice that has stood the test of time for him. In the spirit of new beginnings, I've taken the time to map out my professional journey, translating aspirations into tangible goals. This disciplined approach, inspired by the wisdom shared with me, serves as a roadmap for growth and achievement. So, here's a challenge for you: as you navigate your own career path, consider writing down your ambitions. Whether it's in a physical notebook or a digital document, this act of intentionality can foster clarity and commitment. As we pursue our professional endeavors, let's all strive to be active participants in our lives. Embrace the journey, set goals, and own your role with confidence. Wishing everyone a purposeful and successful year ahead! #CareerReflection #ProfessionalGrowth #GoalSetting #OwnYourRole"
