NJ Environment Chief • Policymaker • Law Professor | advancing cleaner air, land, water + energy, climate action, quality infrastructure, flood protection & environmental justice for all.

We must be honest about the reality of our changing climate and act with concerted urgency to reduce emissions as we help communities adapt to the impacts of climate change that we cannot avoid. Grateful to the New Jersey State Bar Association for allowing me to address climate resilience in the latest edition of the New Jersey Lawyer. Had you been thinking of climate as an issue for the environmental lawyers, consider it one for every lawyer, and especially those engaged in the transfer, financing, development, or use of land or water resources vulnerable to climate impacts. #environmentallaw #climatechange #climateresilience #adaptation

NJ DEP words haven't fully matched reality. The Rahway River Basin remains more vulnerable to climate change and flooding than it did during Hurricane Floyd. Despite significant community focus DEP has lacked the urgency on flood control and the state has permitted major overdevelopment in Millburn, Cranford and other communities. DEP has to go back to its roots when it was founded because of the overdevelopment.

Shawn LaTourette Thank you for your leadership on these issues. Given all of the impacts our communities are experiencing and that will continue to worsen, we need to take bold actions on the local, county/regional, and state level to mitigate and adapt to these impacts. We cannot afford to be timid in the policies and actions we take.

Sean, McCarter English represents our firm. Here is a video of a authentic rain storm vs our pat. green living roof in Nutley NJ. We retain over 80% of this storm event and remove heavy metals! We need more green roofs in NJ to mitigate runoff. how can we help? https://jmp.sh/k2i6GSOv

Wonderful article! It's time to cap development in a watershed. Stop continuing bad planning, overdevelopment and require regional planning.
