Experience vs. Education: What is Most Valuable?
Working in game development, I often receive inquiries about how to break into the industry.
True story: I’ve had numerous mothers call me about work opportunities for their sons in game testing.
One common question is: what do recruiters value more, experience or education?
People have different views on this, but my answer is always: the combination of both.
I love finding candidates who possess a combination of experience and education. Hiring a programming or a game design student for a QA role is ideal. They are likely to excel in the role and have a clear growth path within the business.
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I am a huge advocate of internal mobility. I generally prefer to promote from within rather than recruit externally whenever it makes sense.
That’s why – if your personal situation allows it – I highly recommend continuing education alongside gaining relevant work experience.
Most companies have a tuition reimbursement program. Take advantage of it! Study something you enjoy on a part-time basis. Internal QA analysts, developers, and artists who grow within the company make the best future game designers, producers, team leaders, etc.
I went back to school after working for 15 years. That experience made me realize how much more I could still learn. And the things I learn in school on Saturdays usually make their way into my work on Mondays.

Most Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) grads usually opt to leave their homeland in search of a better life in the West - a place that resonates with their ambitions and appreciates their talents.
Here we are bringing the West to the East. Reversing the tides. Can't wait for stories that are gonna come out in the next few years. Gives me goosebumps NGL.

To my network,
I am reaching out today to share an urgent and deeply personal update in hopes of finding support.
I have recently been informed that my lease will expire in two weeks. With no stable income, I am unable to secure a new place to live, and I do not have the financial means to move again. Unfortunately, I do not have the option of moving in with family and have exhausted my friends' support as a living situation. As a result, I am on the verge of becoming homeless, a situation that is both terrifying and disheartening.
For almost two years, I have been diligently searching for employment. I have broadened my job search beyond the gaming industry, updating my LinkedIn profile to reflect my diverse skill set and experiences across software, immersive media/theme parks, A/V construction, and semi-conductors. Despite being fully qualified, with a solid resume, excellent references, and a proven track record of SPECIFIC accomplishments, I have not been able to secure a full-time position. This ongoing struggle has been both exhausting and demoralizing to my mental health.
It is incredibly frustrating to be in this position, especially when I know that I have the skills and experience necessary to make a meaningful contribution to any organization. My goal is simple: to find a stable job that allows me to live in peace and regain control of my life. I want to move beyond the constant cycle of job hunting and focus on the many other passions, projects, and most importantly, personal relationships that matter to me. My identity is not my job, but I'm forced to revolve my entire life around my career as it impacts every aspect of my life.
If you have any opportunities or leads, or if you can offer support, please do not hesitate to reach out. I invite you to review my LinkedIn profile, ask for my resume, and consider the specific accomplishments I have achieved throughout my career. I am ready and eager to bring my expertise and dedication to a new role.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Your support and understanding mean more than words can express.

Technical Project Manager, Producer, Program Manager | CSM, CSPO | 7yrs driving projects/programs in software development, engineering, and service delivery teams | Scrum, Kanban, Waterfall
Hey all,
As many of y'all know, I've been looking for full-time work since November '22. I've had two great contract jobs in that time, but I'm really trying to find something more permanent.
I'm more than capable and have tangible proof that I'm qualified and valuable. I have better things to do than job hunting all day and would like to move on to other aspects of my life, but this job hunt has consumed me for almost two years, putting my personal relationships and creative pursuits on hold. Frankly, my patience has long run dry.
I'm currently in the market for any #projectmanager, #technicalprojectmanager, #programmanager, or #producer roles within #tech, #softwaredevelopment, #gameindustry or media industries.
Here is what I offer:
7+ years of project management experience: I have 4 years of software development experience (2 years in games, 2 years in non-gaming and games-adjacent projects) and 3 years within project/program management in non-software roles. I've driven cross-functional teams of up to 50 team members for projects and programs over $50M.
Well-versed Project Management Methodologies: I've worked in #Waterfall in A/V construction and advertising, #Agile and #Scrum on software and game development teams, and #Kanban in theme parks and 3D art/animation production. I am a #CertifiedScrumMaster and #ScrumProductOwner. My experience across multiple methodologies has taught me how to adapt the methodology to fit the team.
Building Relationships with Internal/External Partners: I've worked at an art outsourcing studio as a client-facing project manager, acting as a liaison between internal art teams and client game studios. In A/V construction, I managed a monthly average of 180 installations, coordinating with business stakeholders, internal technicians, and third-party vendors. I’ve worked with major IP holders in games and theme parks, owned project timelines in advertising, and managed program logistics for a global system validation team in the semiconductor industry across North America, Asia, and Europe. I’ve also managed software developers across multiple global time zones.
Technical Expertise: I studied Python in college and taught myself #SQL. My hands-on development experience allows me to effectively communicate with technical teams and break down tasks into actionable items.
Outside of work, you can find me dancing at local music venues. I also own a Rokoko motion capture suit and dabble in #virtualproduction and #realtimefilmmaking. A personal aspiration of mine is to pursue music video directing for the local music scene, which is a big factor in my job search.
