Big Changes in the NHS! 🌟 The NHS is undergoing some significant updates that are set to improve patient care across the UK. One of the most exciting developments is the introduction of new digital health platforms aimed at streamlining patient records and making it easier for healthcare professionals to access vital information. This means faster diagnoses and more personalized care for patients. Another major update is the expansion of the NHS workforce. With the ongoing recruitment drive, thousands of new nurses, GPs, and allied health professionals are joining the ranks. This is fantastic news for both patients and existing staff, as it will help to reduce waiting times and improve the overall quality of care. At SHR Group, we're proud to be playing a part in this by connecting talented healthcare professionals with the organizations that need them most. Lastly, the NHS is focusing on mental health services more than ever before. With increased funding and resources, there are now more support options available for those struggling with mental health issues. This is a crucial step towards ensuring that mental health is given the same priority as physical health. #NHS #Healthcare #PatientCare

Place based delivery has taken strides to understand local demand. Integrated care boards with integrated care systems looked to bring the unification of NHS and Care system objectives. A collective view of success. How the independent investigation will assess their relevance as the NHS evolves will be interesting as will the changing role of the consumer. A market health & Care system will look to deliver locally and within the least disruptive structure. How does that shape up in 3024?

Working in the Frontlines of Healthcare; often feels like this. We aren’t the best employees even though I could argue that we are the most likely to say yes when asked for help. Everyone wants a part of the Emergency Department; many “know”how to run it better than us and many believe that if they sling insults & we should take it. Admitted patients should not be lodged in the ED for beds. Overcrowded ED’s are a huge risk to lives not just to those lodged on trolleys in ED’s but to other patrons seeking emergent care and staff who work in them. Burnout, fatigue, depression and suicide are higher amongst healthcare staff on the frontlines and the turnover of staff also high. When something goes wrong; there’s a review and there should be yet everyone knows what the problem is. When will the tide change, when will those in authority be accountable for the consequences of overcrowding or even to believe that it’s not acceptable to keep an elderly patient with dementia on a trolley in crowded ED. When will it be that it’s absolutely not acceptable for patients with mental health illnesses to be kept in ED’s non approved centres as so many studies have shown. It’s feels sometimes like we are holding a grenade and someone has pulled the pin, and all that happens is the slow burn whilst we wait for it to explode. A macabre imposition on us. Why is it that when there’s a visit from some TD that the departments are cleared; why can’t it be known that those whom the TD’s serve are greater. Somehow beds are found; somehow there’s no crowd., somehow our in house teams accept even those they shouldn’t. Somehow we find that things work as they should. I must add though that it doesn’t work anymore because there no place to allow the sudden “laxative/ plumber” when will there be accountability for bad practices; when will we not have to fight to get a patient accepted. Everyday in EM is a challenge; everyday I ask those that don’t work in EM to spare a thought for what we go through and maybe just maybe give a thought that we are doing our best with the resources we have and although we call to escalate, it isn’t a social call, it’s about a patient that requires care. How can KPI’s ever be met when every cubicle we have is occupied with admitted patients out of sight out of mind as the saying goes? How can patients requiring emergency care be seen at the appropriate time they present for help. Yes everyone’s doing their best; but remember the ED’s never close even when everywhere else can say they are full and everyone else has gone home. Our staff face abuse from all around yet we do our vocation serving without much complaint; only asking that we be treated the same as every other and be heard. It’s exhausting working full paced and catecholamine driven 365 days a year. This is where Red Bull doesn’t give wings.

With the recent talk of burn out amongst healthcare professionals. We need to look for alternative and cost effective approaches to assist with the ongoing crisis, with emphasis on alleviating burden especially on Non- clinical staff. This is brief touch and my take on the staff shortages happening nationwide and how outsourcing with CallCare handling and diary management services can effectively cut down on waiting times and improve access to health care services. https://lnkd.in/gGBAs9vc

The Guardian and other publications reported yesterday that NHS faces ‘tipping point’ in England where most appointments will not be with GPs. Our CEO Paul Schreier said: “GP services are under immense and growing pressure. It’s essential that society focuses on preventing ill-health, and this can start in the workplace, where we spend a third of our lives, and where digital health cover can improve access to timely healthcare. “Health cover, when provided as a workplace benefit, provides quick access to digital services including GPs, mental health professionals, eye care, skin condition support and physio services without the need for GP approval or to wait for an appointment. Employers benefit as employees take fewer sick days, all while alleviating the burden on NHS practices. “Businesses can’t do this alone. The health sector wants to collaborate with the Government to unlock the full potential of health support at work. That includes reducing the excessive tax implications that come with providing health cover to staff. This will ease the burden on the NHS and help to tackle in-work sickness.” https://lnkd.in/e3DkzZd4

The conversation in health care is shifting towards a holistic approach that acknowledges the social determinants of health (SDoH). These factors, including income, education and access to resources, significantly influence overall health. Cheryl Dalton-Norman, president of Conduit, sheds light on how Conduit is making strides in addressing these critical issues. • Providing convenient access to clinical expertise: In rural areas, health care access can be challenging. Our Nurse-First Triage service offers immediate access to registered nurses 24/7, helping individuals determine the best course of action for their health care needs. • Conserving valuable ER resources: Our Nurse-First Triage service prevents unnecessary ER visits, conserving resources for genuine emergencies, as patients often turn to ERs for non-urgent issues due to barriers. • Offering guidance and information: Our Nurse-First Triage serves as a vital point of contact within health systems, offering guidance and information. Beyond directing patients to appropriate care, we educate them about community resources to address SDoH-related issues. The shift towards addressing SDoH reflects a commitment to health equity and a healthier future for all. Contact Conduit to explore how your organization can be part of this vital mission. https://lnkd.in/gvjXrCct #HealthcareInnovation #SocialDeterminantsOfHealth #NurseTriage #HealthEquity

🥊 No truer words ever spoken: "Multiple frontline sources have spoken to CTV News about the situation at SMH on the condition of anonymity, fearing serious professional repercussions if they're identified." #workplacebullying It takes A LOT for physicians to speak up publicly about their workplace conditions. It may be helpful to know that the #BCNDP government HAS FAILED TO APPOINT A SINGLE HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL TO THE FRASER HEALTH BOARD. They appointed Jim Sinclair as Chair. How did being president of the BC Federation of Labour for way too long equate to running a health authority? We don't have to imagine the kind of incompetence that comes from having NO health care professionals running the largest health authority in BC. The staff, contractors and patients of the Surrey-region are tragically experiencing the devastating fall out and consequences of this. "The deteriorating conditions in our ED are unequivocally leading to substandard care," it reads. "These conditions create an increasingly toxic work environment that discourages emergency physicians from showing up to work. " The doctors claim that SMH is now the busiest emergency department in Canada and third busiest in North America, with staffing staying static as patient volumes have soared. CTV News was first to report the number of people who've left Fraser Health without being seen, which has been blamed on excessive wait times, has multiplied in recent years. Warnings ignored It's rare for physician groups to speak up about conditions in their healthcare facility, which highlights how serious the situation is at Surrey Memorial Hospital. In the letter to Lee, the ER doctors warn that not only are student doctors avoiding the hectic conditions, but patients are also seeing significantly reduced face time with their care provider compared to other health authorities: they say Vancouver General Hospital doctors spend 44 minutes per patient, while at SMH it's just 16 minutes. In response to CTV News’ request for comment, Fraser Health sent an email statement that they are "in the process of thoroughly reviewing the letter and the issues outlined within" and cited investments in the hospital. Hours after the letter was sent to Lee, the premier's office sent a media advisory that he would be at the site of the new Surrey hospital tomorrow for a joint housing and healthcare announcement. "For the sake of our patients and community, we have been in urgent need of your attention and action on this matter, which has not been provided by you or your team," reads the final paragraph of the letter to Lee. "We are calling for new leadership that will engage directly with our department, observe the daily challenges of substandard patient care and the moral distress we face, and be fully committed to meaningful improvement." https://lnkd.in/g5PSHqhx #medicalnegligence
