Energy and Climate Change Ministers' made several decisions about #DER distributed energy resources at last Friday's meeting in Perth discussed in this thoughtful Sophie Vorrath RenewEconomy article. My summary: "With consumers buying more #solar, #heatpumps and electric vehicles #EVs every day, we need policy and regulation to catch up and leverage these investments for everyone’s benefit." Clean energy isn’t political; it creates jobs, economic prosperity, and energy resilience to the US because federal investments like President Biden's Affordable Clean Energy Plan are expanding across the US more rapidly. The 2024 Sustainable Energy in America Factbook highlights a record-breaking year for clean energy deployment, with substantial growth in utility-scale power generation and storage capacity, including renewable energy and natural gas. These advancements not only bolster the US economy and reduce emissions but also underscore the crucial role of clean energy in enhancing national competitiveness on a global scale. As America moves towards solving infrastructure permitting challenges, the continued push for clean energy promises to secure a sustainable, prosperous future for all Americans, transcending partisan divides and focusing on the collective benefit.

Clean Energy Council chief executive Kane Thornton shares how clean energy is unavoidable for Australia and for the world. "The time it takes to establish the green economies that will power the world in generations to come will vary, but those transitions are now inevitable. The clean energy transition is now recognised as a profound opportunity." #renewableenergy #cleanenergy #cleanenergy

Researcher and consultant for renewable energy delivery and sustainable nutrient management in Northern Ireland
The ambitious target of 80% renewable electricity by 2030 will only be met with a change in approach, a shared vision across government departments and a fresh full focus to deliver new renewable technology development in Northern Ireland. Responding the the call for evidence: 'Renewable Energy and Net Zero in Northern Ireland' and 'A Future Focused Review of the Strategic Planning Policy Statement (SPPS) on the issue of Climate Change' - represent potential ways to steer this needed change. #renewableenergy #renewableelectricity #northernireland #netzero #decarbonisation

Interesting article discussing the current #energy landscape in the UK, shedding light on the challenges the country faces in achieving its #NetZero targets and ensuring energy security. The reliance on new gas-fired power stations raises questions about the long-term #sustainability of such choices. Electricity #interconnectors showcase a viable alternative, allowing excess grid power to be utilized efficiently. Enhancing #interconnection and investing in renewable energy sources and energy storage provide a more sustainable path towards achieving net zero targets. Moreover, the discussion around #energysecurity highlights the need for diversification and resilience in the energy system. It's evident that the transition to net zero requires ambitious actions and collaboration across various sectors. As we continue our efforts to promote renewable energy integration, let's work together towards a greener and more connected energy future. https://lnkd.in/eFuxc474

Working for sustainability and a clean transformation of energy systems and the economy. Seeking project roles now.
Exactly right Peter Lewis. The energy transition is hard. Especially at the scale and speed required. But also essential and inevitable. And easier than the 3C+ global heating alternative. Shame we've made it so much harder by not having the key market mechanism of a price on carbon to drive investment to the right things/places, and redistribute capital more equitably.
Latest Essential Report and column out - the deep dive is the troubled roll-out of renewable transition communications. As I note "Government messaging .. vacillati(es) between the torpid technocracy of targets, acronyms and megawatt hours and the sunny spin that promises “a cheaper, cleaner energy future!” None of it works. https://lnkd.in/gNB5yVYG

📢 A topic stirring up much debate at the moment - locational pricing. It's an area I've been talking about recently, having given evidence to the UK Parliament Energy Security and Net Zero select committee for the Government’s inquiry into a Flexible Grid for the Future. In my latest Thought Leadership piece for BayWa r.e. UK, I explore why the #locationalpricing debate matters. Is it distracting from the priority of net zero or is it part of the transition journey for the UK?
The UK is on a mission to transition to a fully decarbonised power system by 2035, as part of the overall strategy target of #netzero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 🌍 Our Head of Grid and Electricity Regulation at BayWa r.e. UK, Graham Pannell, is contributing to the debate, having recently given evidence to the UK Parliament Energy Security and Net Zero select committee for the Government’s inquiry into a Flexible Grid for the Future. 🔥 One hot topic hitting the headlines is #locationalpricing. But what does it mean and why does the debate matter? Is it distracting from the priority of net zero or is it part of the transition journey for the UK? We asked Graham to share his views on whether locational pricing has a place in a flexible #grid for the future.
