The global fleet consists of 795 LNG tankers and 2,082 LPG tankers. These tankers play specialized roles in moving natural gas in its various forms across the world. LNG tankers move cleaner-burning fuel from production points to markets where natural gas pipelines are not feasible or available. LPG tankers carry liquefied petroleum gas, a mixture of propane and butane, which serves a variety of uses from residential heating and cooking to fueling vehicles and industrial processes. The existence of these two fleets underscores the broader importance of natural gas as a cornerstone of the global energy system, contributing to energy security, environmental sustainability, and economic development worldwide. LNG production: how to run facilities more efficiently and sustainably

For all the clamour surrounding methanol as shipping’s future fuel, there remains very limited sites worldwide with available bunkering for the in vogue fuel. New research issued this week from Clarksons Research shows there are just 10 sites worldwide offering methanol bunkering, with another 11 under development. By contrast, for LNG, the other leading alternative fuel today, there are 188 sites offering the gas as a ship fuel today with another 82 under development. https://bit.ly/3TOD4q2 Via Splash 247

⛽️ Methanol or LNG ? 👉CO2 emission footprint of Blue Methanol is 5–10% lower than LNG, combining well-to-gate production footprint and hull-to-wake consumption footprint. 👉Methanol fuel costs are less volatile than LNG. 👉A methanol-fueled engine adds ≈10% to the cost of a new vessel, LNG engine adds 22% more. 👉Methanol is easier to handle and store than LNG, with half the bunkering time. 👉Methanol bunkering infrastructure is easier and cheaper than LNG bunkering infrastructure. 👉Path to a carbon-neutral methanol fuel is being developed, but no path exists for LNG. #lngindustry #bunkering #methanol #emissionsmanagement #costeffective
