Oftentimes people tend to ask “do you love to win or hate to lose”? When people ask me they I tend to share this: Kobe Bryant shared his unique perspective on competition and the mindset of a true champion. When asked whether he loved to win or hated to lose, Kobe’s response was both profound and illuminating. He challenged the dichotomy presented in the question. Instead of choosing between love for victory and disdain for defeat, Kobe revealed his own approach: “I don’t love to win. I don’t hate to lose. I play to figure things out.” Winning: Kobe didn’t express an overwhelming love for winning. For him, it wasn’t about the euphoria of victory. Rather, it was a means to an end—a puzzle to solve, a challenge to overcome. Losing: Similarly, he didn’t harbor a deep hatred for losing. Instead, he saw it as an opportunity for growth. Every defeat was a lesson, a chance to refine his skills and evolve. The Process: Kobe’s focus was on the journey—the process of improvement. He played not just to win but to unravel the intricacies of the game, to understand himself better, and to elevate his performance.

"𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭" At a recent leadership conference, I had the pleasure of listening to James Michael Lafferty, Olympic Coach & Corporate Leader . He spoke about what sets "𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬" apart from "𝐖𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐬"!! Amongst the several golden nuggets of wisdom that James shared, what stuck with me is the example of the legendary 𝑬𝒅𝒘𝒊𝒏 𝑴𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒔, 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑶𝒍𝒚𝒎𝒑𝒊𝒄 𝑯𝒖𝒓𝒅𝒍𝒆𝒓 and it prompted me to research more about Edwin. In today's VUCA and BANI world, we constantly seek inspiration and guidance from exemplary figures who embody dedication, resilience, and excellence. Edwin's journey offers profound lessons that are incredibly relevant. 1. 𝑫𝒊𝒔𝒄𝒊𝒑𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒆𝒏𝒄𝒚 Edwin Moses' remarkable winning streak of 122 consecutive races over nearly a decade is a testament to his unwavering discipline and consistency. In our industry, maintaining high standards and delivering exceptional service consistently are key to earning our customers' trust and loyalty. 2. If you must reside with eagles in the sky, then you have to grow wings and learn to fly... No matter how difficult it may seem. Here's your reminder that there's no crown without a contest... Just the same way there can't be a champion without the existence of a challenge. Remember, when you conquer a mountain, you move to a higher level than where you currently are... So my question to you is this... Where would you rather be; At your current location or at an altitude that's way higher? As you may already know... Life won't gift you a crown; you must earn it. We all know someone who was the "top dog" or "star athlete" in high school… ...and still talks about those "big" achievements 10… 20... years later. I bet you have someone in mind right now that does this. This is because most people suffer from a faulty way of thinking… Which keeps them from winning consistently. They think that just because they won a state title or they were elected high-school class president… They are entitled to win again and again in life. The problem with that is... Beating your chest about your past successes... Whether they happened last year, last month or even yesterday… Will keep you from going full throttle on today's actions... Today’s actions are what determine tomorrow’s wins. So if you spend time thinking about how great you used to be it will ultimately and literally keep you from winning again. Listen… The only person who cares about what you did yesterday ... is YOU. Literally nobody else. The real world only rewards you for your work today… Not what you say you will do tomorrow… Or what you did three years ago. Or that one time you won way back when. In baseball they have a saying: “You are only as good as your last at-bat.” When it comes to performance in life… YOU are only as good as how you did today. Never forget that. Everyone can stumble across a win here and there… But if you want to keep winning long-term… ...and actually accomplish something meaningful in life... You need to go out and win every single day for a long fucking time… …and you can’t do that when you’re thinking about how great you used to be back in the day.
