Every day we get closer to revolutionary connectivity across land, air, sea, and space -- With SpaceX paving the way with their #Starlink system, the very first batch of Starlink satellites has been successfully launched into #orbit as of this week! In case you don't remember, the goal of Starlink is to use satellites to connect to smartphones and grant cellular service anywhere on Earth... and even in space! This launch contained the first six Starlink satellites that are designed to connect to unmodified smartphones and are being operated under a temporary experimental license to start testing their capabilities. SpaceX also plans to enable texting from space sometime this year with hopes of implementing voice and data capabilities by 2025. It's crazy to think that within the next few years, seeing "No Service" on your phone could become a thing of the past! But one of Musk's companies is working on improving cellular connectivity.SpaceX has launched its first set of Starlink satellites with the ability to send signals to cellular phones. A Falcon 9 rocket carried 21 satellites into orbit on Tuesday, according to SpaceX. U.S. regulators approved these satellites last month, according to TechCrunch.International wireless carriers, like Rogers in Canada and KDDI in Japan, are also expected to work with SpaceX for connectivity in areas with little-to-no service.According to Starlink's website, these satellites will act as a "cellphone tower in space.""Direct to Cell works with existing LTE phones wherever you can see the sky," reads the company's website. "No changes to hardware, firmware, or special apps are required, providing seamless access to text, voice, and data."While the first of these Starlink satellites have launched, consumers will still have to wait for some time. Casual observers in this sector completely miss the important stuff. The challenge of low-orbit satellite business lies in dynamic network routing - being able to provide more data to more diversely-connected endpoints. While this move by Starlink approaches this problem by simplifying "last mile" delivery (from satellite to end terminal), the real winner will be company that perfects intersatellite links - like those that Kuiper just tested in orbit. It is not clear if SpaceX achieved ISL yet. SpaceX has launched a rocket carrying the first set of Starlink satellites that can beam signals directly to smartphones from space. The company has partnered with wireless carriers to provide network access via Starlink satellites to phone users in "dead zones."
