ATTRACTING THE NEXT GENERATION TO RAIL Webinar organized by Global Railway Review 10 September 2024 - 8:30am EDT In an industry soon to celebrate it’s 200th anniversary, attracting, training and retaining the next generation of talent into its ranks is of paramount importance. The rail industry has recognised the difficulty in doing this in recent years, as younger generations are drawn away from what are considered traditional workplaces or even work patterns. On this panel, experts from some of the best training associations in the rail industry will discuss how rail might change its image as an employer and what the next generation of rail are currently looking for. Understand how the rail industry is currently tackling the generation gap struggle, which methods are working and which could be improved, and explore new methods to address attracting the next generation of talent or fill experience gaps with training. https://lnkd.in/gtTY4qdC

According to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), #transportation accounts for the largest share (28%) of total U.S. #greenhousegasemissions , but the rail industry accounts for one of the smallest amounts of transportation-related emissions at just 2%, which is a mere 0.6% of total U.S. greenhouse gas emissions. To address how the rail industry can be utilized more effectively, the AREMA 2024 Sustainability & Resiliency Symposium was held earlier this week. We wanted to thank American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and Jacobs for inviting UN Global Compact Network USA to speak at the first-ever symposium dedicated to the increasingly important themes of #sustainability and resiliency in the #railway industry. Network USA's Executive Director, Adam Roy Gordon, spoke about the cross-cutting nature of the Sustainable Development Goals (#SDGs) and how rail companies that embrace the SDGs can impact more than one SDG, such as SDG 9 (Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Cities), SDG 13 (Climate Action), SDG 3 (Health), and SDG 7 (Energy). Embracing SDG-aligned initiatives to accelerate progress toward our shared goals is necessary for a more prosperous and sustainable world. 🚆 Embracing Sustainability as a Strategic Advantage in the Rail Industry 🌱 At #PROSE, we are committed to leading the rail industry, promoting sustainability and innovation. Recently, PROSE-employee and Swissrail Industry Association board member Dr. Bernhard Frei contributed an insightful editorial to the Swissrail membership magazine. In the article, the project focus was on discussing the pivotal role of sustainability in shaping the future of our industry amidst evolving legislative landscapes. Since December 2021, new regulations have mandated that large public companies report on non-financial aspects from 2023 and their climate impact from 2024. These changes present not just legal obligations but opportunities for proactive adaptation and innovation. By sharing our insights, we aim to highlight PROSE's proactive stance within the industry and inspire our peers to embrace sustainable business practices. Together with Swissrail, we are paving the way towards a greener, more efficient future for rail transport.
