The theme for NAIDOC Week 2024 has been announced! Chosen by the National NAIDOC Committee, the theme is ‘Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud.’ It honours the enduring strength and vitality of First Nations culture – with fire being a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Also, NAIDOC Grants are currently open. The government recently announced the opening of $1.7 million in grants to support local communities and organisations to help celebrate 2024 NAIDOC Week and the rich and diverse cultures of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Australians. National Indigenous Australians Agency are managing the application process and have two tiers available: small scale grants for up to $10,000 and large scale grants for between $10,001 and $50,000. To apply for a NAIDOC Local Grant, visit www.grants.gov.au and submit an application before closing at 3pm AEDT on Thursday 22 February 2024. The 2024 NAIDOC week of acknowledgement and celebration concluded yesterday, Sunday 14th July. This year’s theme was ‘Keep the fire burning! Blak, loud and proud’. Though the week is over, we must continue to ‘Keep the fire burning!’ – through education, conversation and advocacy. I will share some facts which I learnt over the past week. 1) Originally, NAIDOC was known and registered as NADOC (National Aborigines Day Observance Committee). In1991, the title was changed to NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee). This was to reflect the unique and distinct cultural histories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 2) Keep the Fire Burning! – this year’s theme of fire is a symbol of connection to Country, to each other, and to the rich tapestry of traditions that define Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. 3) Acknowledgement of Country – why is this important? Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have long been excluded from many parts of Australian society. Acknowledging, and recognising, the history and culture of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in events, meetings etc helps to ensure society ends that exclusion; and demonstrates respect to the traditional custodians of the land. 4) You can learn more about the Country you reside and/ or work on from your Local Council website, or the AIATSIS map of Indigenous Australia is a great reference and source of information. Drop an ember – Ignite the Fire – Keep the Fire Burning! #NAIDOC2024

It's NAIDOC week, and this year's theme is Keep the Fire Burning: Blak, Loud, and Proud. This years theme focuses on celebrating the cultural resilience of First Nations people, their profound connection to the land and traditions, and their pride in their First Nation identity. "It embodies our purpose, calling us to celebrate and honour the strength and vitality of our cultures." As an organisation, we have been putting to task the recommendations from NAIDOC - here’s three things you can do: - Check your local council for events: https://lnkd.in/dexeVKVM - If you cannot attend an in-person event, here are other ways to participate: Follow and engage with First Nations creators online, attend online events, and watch movies and shows featuring First Nations stories. Learn the traditional names of the land you live on and its owners. - Follow, like and share some cool people who are posting interesting content, here are some of our favourite current and upcoming leaders: https://lnkd.in/gy8U6aks https://lnkd.in/gfmX8dD5 https://lnkd.in/g3_q2HB #NAIDOC24 #BLAK #keepthefireburning #impactinvesting #indigenousknowledges

Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud & Proud. That’s the theme for this year’s NAIDOC Week, celebrating the resilience, strength and vibrancy of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, the longest continually practised cultures on Earth. ‘Fire’ embodies the enduring strength of First Nations cultures, symbolising connection, and tradition among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and signals a commitment to preserving and passing down rich cultural heritage. ‘Blak, Loud and Proud’ is a celebration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander strength, culture and identity. It is a clarion call to First Nations Australians to raise our heads and voices; and for all Australians to listen, learn and engage with the first custodians of this land. The Albanese Government has announced $1.7 million in grants for First Nations communities, registered businesses, schools and local governments to run events that directly relate to the 2024 NAIDOC theme. These grants, are in two tiers: small scale (grants up to $10,000) and large scale (between $10,001 and $50,000). For more information and to apply for a NAIDOC Local Grant, visit GrantConnect and submit an application before closing at 3pm AEDT on Thursday 22 February 2024. The Kleinfelder team took time to acknowledge NAIDOC week and the importance of celebrating the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The team participated in events to learn more about First Nations culture, investigated and presented ways to promote and foster increased Indigenous participation in our industry, and incorporated conscious supply changes to our business. All with the aim of learning how to be the best ally we can be. This NAIDOC week we at Kleinfelder continue to make conscious focused changes and challenge ourselves to learn and do more; for we believe even today’s smaller deliberate changes can become the instinctive strides forward of tomorrow. #NAIDOC2024

This week is NAIDOC Week – a time to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As an organisation, we prioritise the protection of cultural heritage. Before doing clean-up works on any site, we ensure our staff and contractors understand the existence of Aboriginal cultural heritage in the landscape and know how to recognise areas or items of potential cultural significance. To do this, we’ve partnered with A2B Personnel to educate our staff and contractors about what Aboriginal cultural heritage areas or items might be discovered on-site that require protection during clean-up works. Participants learn what might be considered an artefact or area of significance, what to do if they come across one, and who to tell when they do, so it can be protected. Our Strategy for Aboriginal Community-led Recovery guides us in supporting Aboriginal communities to lead their recovery after storms, floods, and bushfires. Including Aboriginal voices at the centre of community recovery is everyone’s responsibility. Read the strategy: https://lnkd.in/gt_bxwSR #NAIDOC2024 #NAIDOCWeek

Celebrating NAIDOC Week 2024: A Story of Healing through Art This NAIDOC Week, we celebrate the amazing journey of Kylie and David Hill and their family. Years ago, they started a business that uses art to connect with communities across Australia having collaborated with communities and organisations in Queensland, NSW, and Victoria. For them, art is not just creative—it's a way to heal and share their culture. Kylie shares First Nations tribes used art to share important messages. They didn’t write letters and used symbols and drawings to tell stories. Whether it was about a birth, a hunt, or a special event, these drawings were their way of communicating. Today, Kylie, David and their family keep this tradition alive through their business, sharing their heritage with everyone. At Bunzl, we are proud to have Kylie’s family create the artwork for our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan. This partnership is about more than just art—it's about building strong relationships and working together as one. NAIDOC Week isn’t just one week of the year. It is important we celebrate the culture, stories, and connections that we honour every single day of First Nations peoples and communities. #NAIDOC2024 #ArtAndHealing #Reconciliation #Bunzl #FirstNations #CulturalStories #ReconcilationActionPlan
