Really interesting to see the Office of Rail and Road (ORR) publish its final determination for Network Rail spending in CP7. In regards to innovation the documents highlight the '...challenges the industry faces, transitioning new technology from development through to adoption...' Value for money, efficiency and keeping infrastructure upgrades to time and to budget were also big features of this week's #RIAconf23. This is a major strategic challenge, but one which the Global Centre Of Rail Excellence - a world class facility for rail research, testing and innovation being built in South Wales - can support the industry with. https://lnkd.in/eFC5EaiE #Rail #Innovation #GCRE #GlobalCentreOfRailExcellence

Awesome Industry deep sharing at the Interim Rail Economic Regulatory Capacity gathering sessions the important journey SA Inc is on - The clear message is that the objective of rail reform is to create a cost effective logistics backbone to grow GDP and hence enable job creation. Performance and efficiency has to be the objective so we can offer cost effective solutions to customers. The access fee suggested in the Draft Network Statement Rail is unsustainable and will not acheive this but rather the opposite. The journey should be to allow the annual maintenance investments based on current Network access portion in the current normalised rates with the customer. At the same time get TRIM to drive the Principles of Network Operations per clause 6.3, so we can have transparency on what is needed for Corridor specific investments, which then must ringfenced for possible special capital raise with customers and rebated through rebates on income from increased incremental volumes. #growth ##railindustry ##jobcreation

Disappointing not to see more in the Autumn Statement confirming wider funding for rail, particularly the numerous schemes in the new ‘Network North’ proposals. We were told the funding for #HS2 Phase 2 was to be reallocated to other more immediate #transportschemes and so we would welcome more detail from Government on how it plans to push on with delivery of the Network North plans. #connectivitymatters #netzero #lowcarboneconomy #transportnetwork #network #highspeedrail
