It's #WomensHistoryMonth! A time when we celebrate the contributions and achievements of women in our society, and also a moment to acknowledge the systemic barriers that prevent many women from reaching their full potential. Women’s incarceration rates have been growing at twice the rate of men’s over the past few decades, which means the barriers to employment, safe housing, and new opportunities continue to grow. Not only do those barriers affect women, but research shows that when women are shut out of the workforce, children are far more likely to end up in poverty. At The Clean Slate Initiative, we’re working to ensure millions of women with records have the support they need to achieve their goals. It began with five reform-minded women inaugurating the first women's rights convention with over three hundred who lit the flame of activism for women's rights. It took 72 years to accomplish the passage of the 19th Amendment in 1920, which granted women the right to vote. A small number can cultivate positive and significant change. So many of our Freedoms are on the ballot this year, and equal rights for women are at the very top of that list.
