How do you maintain cavity drain waterproofing systems? 🤔 Type C systems differ from type A & B systems because they don't seek to resist the water pressure; instead, they allow it to enter before depressurising and controlling it to protect the internal space. Generally speaking, Type C solutions require little maintenance, but there are a number of things to be aware of: 🏗️ During installation: Repairs should be carried out as/when they occur to save time and reduce later risk. The membrane should also be checked after installation. 👷 Inspection ports: Drainage channels should be fitted with accessible inspection ports to allow for future inspections, jetting, etc. 🚧 Sump & pump chambers: These need to be installed in locations that allow easy access for the periodic servicing schedule. 🔧 Maintenance inspections: The system should have its first service within 3 months of being commissioned. A future servicing and maintenance schedule should be agreed, and should only be carried out by trained service engineers. It's important that Type C systems are designed and installed as a maintainable system, and vital components should be accessible, as highlighted in a key requirement of the British Standard for waterproofing, BS 8102:2022.
