Did you complete our recent survey on the Community Walkability Checklist? Thank you again to those who did. We’ve prepared a short summary of key feedback at the link below. We’re now considering the feedback as we further review the next iteration of the Checklist, with key purpose and objectives being to: 🚶♂️ educate and raise community awareness of about the relationship between heart health, physical activity, walkability and the built environment; 🙋♀️ mobilise and support communities to advocate to local council for improved built environments; 📣 provide a platform/tool through which communities can communicate with their local council about neighbourhood walkability; and ✅ ensure local councils hear from their communities and receive information in a way that is meaningful and constructive to improve walkability in their local area We’re collaborating with some great researchers from the Swinburne University of Technology to: - further analyse the survey results and feedback received - undertake a literature review to help determine effective community advocacy initiatives for the walkability of built environments - assess comparable tools and resources - provide recommendations for the next iteration of the Checklist stay tuned!! #walkability #builtenvironment #communityadvocacy https://lnkd.in/gfZ5JFX4

The Cost of Homelessness study reveals that R744 million is spent annually on homelessness. Of this amount, 45%—or approximately R334.8 million—is allocated to security. Specifically, R28.6 million is spent on Security Services (policing homelessness), and R5.9 million is used for CID urban management (cleaning). This is staggering information. Fortunately for MES Cape Town, the Voortrekker Road CID has been committed to a developmental approach to homelessness since its inception. With Social Development as a strategic objective, the VRCID has adopted a collaborative impact approach to social development. By establishing Joint Operations Committees, they have brought together state, civil society, and business sectors to work from a unified plan, ensuring a multi-disciplinary and multi-sectoral approach to addressing homelessness. The VRCID’s developmental approach is a critical success factor in the fight against homelessness. We are extremely grateful for a partner that understands the complexity of homelessness and is so supportive of the work we do. #MouldEmpowerServe #ChangingtheHeartoftheCity #Partnerships #VRCID
July Highlights: The VRCID remains committed to Public Safety, Urban Management and Social Upliftment. This month, 303 individuals received crucial assistance through our Winter Readiness Programme, ensuring warmth and care during the colder days. #communitycare #VRCID #WinterSupport
