It's time for our larger credit unions to seriously consider separating the CIO (Chief Information Officer) and CISO (Chief Information Security Officer) roles. As a CEO, it's crucial to receive the business perspective independently from the risk perspective to make well-informed decisions. While no rule mandates this separation, I promise you'll wish you'd done it sooner. #AskSynergy #ERM #Strategy #OperationalPlanning

It’s week 2 of Cyber Security Awareness Month – have you turned on multi-factor authentication (MFA)? MFA is an extra layer of security that makes it harder for cybercriminals to get into your account. For example, using a password and a code sent to your phone to log in. We recommend turning on MFA for your most important accounts, such as your: 🔒 email 🔒 accounts that save payment details 🔒 financial services 🔒 social media. Data protection and PCI DSS compliance are closely related because both aim to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information. By complying with PCI DSS requirements, companies can ensure that their customers' credit card information is protected from cyber threats. Additionally, implementing robust data protection measures can offer peace of mind to both businesses and customers, ensuring that sensitive data is kept safe from prying eyes.

Your passwords are often the gateway to important data and resources. So, the stronger (and longer) your password, the stronger your defences. That’s where passphrases can act as a useful and more effective alternative to passwords. These are much longer, with a sequence of 3-5 random words. Rather than being a sentence, it should be an easy combination for you to remember. According to insights from the Australian Cyber Security Centre (ACSC), a password with 18 lowercase letters can take as long as 1,000 years for bots to crack. So, with a complicated passphrase, your business is in a much better position. To learn more about cyber security solutions for your business, talk to the team at TBTC QLD North today.
