For Car Salespeople: Better Communication is Key to Helping Consumers. Car Sales Tips: Overcoming the Objection: “I Want to Think about it” So in my 30+ years of car sales experience, I’ve encountered one of the most common objections: "I want to think about it." It happens right after a trial close or when you are presenting the numbers. Here ia a simple yet powerful technique I have used to handle this objection and move the sale forward. ✨ The Key: Smile, stay calm, and respond with this: "Of course, you should think about it! But let me ask you this... On a scale from 1 to 10, with 10 meaning you'd buy it right now, and 1 meaning you wouldn't take it if I gave it to you... where do you stand?" (Then listen... and let them speak.) Here’s an example: Customer: "I’d like it for free, but I’m at a 6." No matter what number they give you, here’s your response: "Awesome! What would it take to get you to a 10?" (Again, just listen.) Customer: "If you can get my payment close to $450 a month, I’d buy it right now." You: "Excellent! Let’s make that happen!" Remember, it’s all about listening, understanding the customer’s needs, and working to find that perfect balance that gets them from a ‘6’ to a ‘10’. 👍 Note: This is a non-conformational way to handle this objection and it helped me go from a 15 car a month sales person to a 30 car a month car salesperson by just listening (empathy) and working with the customer to get them to a Winning situation by effectively communicating.
