World Senior Citizen Day is celebrated on August 21 each year! Today, we are reminded to recognize the valuable wisdom and experience that seniors and older adults bring to our communities. Let’s raise awareness about the challenges they may face and work collectively to combat these issues, ensuring they receive the respect and support they deserve. Here are three key findings from the 2024 Report on Aging from the Orange County Aging Services Collaborative. -Thirty-three percent of all respondents reported experiencing one or more falls within the past 6 months. -Among all survey respondents, 41% reported that they are in good health, while 30% report that they have some health issues. -Fifty-four percent of survey respondents reside with family members and/or their spouse. JUST RELEASED | A new Age Wave and JAHF survey, conducted by The Harris Poll, uncovers significant disparities in health care satisfaction among older adults and highlights the need to focus on increasing healthspan—the period of life spent in good health—rather than just lifespan: 👉 Rural residents report lower satisfaction with the health care system than urban counterparts 👉 Women express greater concerns about longevity than men 👉 People of color face unique challenges, including lower self-reported financial well-being These findings add to the growing body of research that shows our health care system is not meeting the diverse needs of our aging population. JAHF is committed to promoting equitable, age-friendly care for all older adults. This article about aging just came out in Forbes - it quoted me around social prescribing and how it offers us more tools in our toolbox as clinicians - and helps the clinician’s wellness as well! It also mentions our first celebration of Social Prescribing Day tomorrow! https://lnkd.in/gtqXu_tT.

“As survey results showed, there are opportunities for the U.S. to learn from other health systems when addressing gaps in coverage, accessibility, and affordability for older Americans. Countries could, at the very least, compare and contrast issues to identify areas of improvement, address what’s lacking, or view aging from a different cultural lens…” like with #socialprescribing #socialconnection #ageing So much to learn from other countries.
