I am going to answer many individual questions with a post, rather than a dozen individual answers. I am a traveling Medical Laboratory Scientist. MS, MLS(ASCP)SC, BB, H. All with certification maintenance. There are about a dozen states that require licensure, I have Montana (MT), West Vrginia (WV), and New York (NY). I recently let another State expire because they required that I send all official transcripts, certifications and licensures to them, again. I already did this a few years ago and decided not to do it again. I guess I won't be traveling to that State. Some states just ask too much of me to get their license. As an example, I have been a Laboratory Scientist since the 1990s. I am not going to find Managers/Directors from the 1990's and ask for a letter. They are certainly retired and may not even be with us any longer (RIP). I have not been retrenched or layed off. The nature of traveling is that it sometimes takes a few weeks between contracts and if a travel stipend is a component of the pay package, then the IRS is prescriptive about spending time back at your home of record (HOR). I am open to many types of employment, so "yes" on remote, hybrid, and on-site. If an employer asked me to sit home and do utilization review, I would. That answers just about all of the questions that came out of me saying I was "Open to "Work". In addition to the nature pics I will share, I'll also get a pic of the corner of Rte 66 and McKinley, I think, in Winslow, AZ, to commemorate Jackson Browne's (lyrics) and the Eagles (song, "Take it easy").

To the majority of people that I have connected with - especially the laboratory techs that I have linked to without really knowing any of you. My initial goal was to provide a network of people that could be resourced for those weird or rare instances when you see something really strange under the microscope or you just can't get an older machine (or a newer one) to come into quality range or even function, tech support isn't helping or hasn't even called back. Maybe I've worked one to many contracts on third shift alone, but sometimes it would have been nice to just get another opinion. It has always helped that my son and both my daughters are techs, but I felt that maybe such a network would be useful. To that end I started to "friend" any tech that asked me, generally ruling out lab managers, recruiters and techs from other countries as being those that don't work the bench, aren't interested in actual lab issues and those that work under totally different systems in other countries. whether this has any value, I'm still undecided. I've always been ambivalent at best with linked-in. I'm also not really tech savvy enough to exploit the platform or motivated enough to learn how. If anyone else has any ideas or would like to take the lead on this, be my guest. I've only been in the tech field now for about six years - four of them as a traveler. I'm still appalled by some of the leadership in the field and amazed by some of the experience and expertise I've had the opportunity to work with. Still grossly disappointed by the dismal state of pay in a clearly diminishing field of workers (quantity). I have plenty of personal opinions on the organization and staffing of labs and plenty of thoughts on the various LIS I've worked with. Willing to discuss any of that with whomever is interested. I just finished my eighth contract over five or six systems depending on how you count different versions of Cerner (of which I am not a big fan). Only worked two full time positions before traveling (well three if you count hospitals instead of health systems and four if you include my clinicals and contingent work after graduating). Strangely enough I interviewed for a full-time position last year and was offered the same starting pay as I got when I graduated five years before - did I mention my appalling opinion of tech pay? My kids and I are working on an illustrated tech guide for students and/or techs (my daughters are fairly good artists). I would be interested in any input on that - no matter how negative or encouraging you think of the idea.
