The Levelling-up and Regeneration Act 2023 (Commencement No. 2 and Transitional Provisions) Regulations 2024 have come into effect. The Levelling Up and Regeneration Act received royal assent in October 2023. The 2024 regulations activate Section 94 of the Levelling-up Act which deals with national development management policies. This provides a statutory basis for national development management policies to be implemented. https://lnkd.in/eXGYKhwx

Tania Bowers, Global Public Policy Director at APSCo, addresses the key issues missing from Labour's new manifesto. While the plans for growth and change are ambitious, there's a critical gap in detailing where the workforce to support these plans will come from. From education and healthcare to construction, APSCo emphasises the need for a national skills strategy and a thoughtful immigration approach to fill these roles. Scotland’s need to create homes for key workers has never been greater with many local authorities struggling to attract and retain people who are fundamental to delivering key services (both in the private and public sector) in their area. Given our remit to support the development and delivery of different types of housing across Scotland, our Place, Housing and Economic Investment team commissioned a paper to consider approaches to key worker housing and possible new mechanisms to allow housing to be delivered for key workers. https://lnkd.in/eFAD9kn2 This paper also considers the different definitions for key workers that can be used by local authorities in the provision of housing. By working with us, new approaches to key worker housing can be developed. Iterum is excited about the recent announcement from Angela Rayner on the revised National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) and its new support for mixed tenure sites, including Build to Rent (BTR). This is a big thumbs up for the BTR sector, which could potentially add around 2 million homes across the UK. 🙌 With 115,000 homes already delivered, there’s still a lot more we can do. Savills points out that if we matched the institutional ownership levels of Germany and the USA, we could see institutions owning between 2.1 and 2.4 million PRS homes. That's a lot of homes! 🤯 But we can’t do it alone. We need the government to step up and help the BTR sector thrive. This means setting clear targets for rental homes and creating incentives for investment in high-quality, professionally managed properties. 👷♀️ We’re all for the government’s long-term housing strategy and ready to pitch in. Together, we can boost housing supply with top-notch homes that really focus on what tenants want. 🎯 #BuildToRent #NPPF #HousingStrategy #Sustainability #CommunityCreation #RealEstate #PropertyDevelopment

Last week the Chartered Institute of Housing released new guidance for rethinking repairs and maintenance. It is made up of 12 guiding principles for rethinking repairs and maintenance services. The principles were developed by a best practice group, established by CIH, and made up of representatives from registered #sociallandlords, tenant representative bodies, equality and diversity bodies, and procurement and contracting experts. The 12 guiding principles set out what social landlords should use to inform and improve the co-design and delivery of repairs and maintenance services with their residents and staff. #socialhousing #housingassociations #housingassociation #housing https://hubs.ly/Q02wVKnD0
