Companies and leaders must take responsibility for building trust with marginalized individuals. It's never acceptable to blame them for a lack of support. This is especially important for LGBTQIA+ team members who may feel uncomfortable participating in groups where their identity is visible. However, it's also important to recognize that not all participants are allies. Some may have other motives. That's why companies must foster a genuinely inclusive and supportive environment for everyone. Pride parades in major UK cities are often used by brands for 'Rainbow Washing' purposes 🌈 Rainbow Washing, also known as Pink Washing, is the practice of exploiting the LGBTQ+ community to boost PR and sales, without making any real action or long-term commitments. This year, however, there's a slight but positive change at London Pride. The organisers have launched a new initiative, 'Pride in the City,' a year-round partner programme for brands interested in joining the capital’s procession. For a commitment of just over £7,000, sponsors can secure a spot in the parade and receive training on various topics. These include making trans and nonbinary colleagues feel more welcome in the office and creating an inclusive workplace. Why is this important? 🤔 It's refreshing to see, especially in 2024, efforts to tackle the exploitation of minorities for brand promotion. Maintaining positive PR should be about year-round effort and meaningful changes, not just adding a rainbow overlay to a profile picture. Cold Lake 2SLGTBQ+ Community Luncheon and Panel Discussion Event - May 31st, 2024 Please accept this as an invitation to attend our event! Following the Cold Lake Pride Proclamation and Pride Flag raising ceremony join us for a meal catered by Gameday Grill and then participate in a panel discussion regarding issues close to those of the Queer and Transgender community. We have gathered a variety of amazing local 2SLGTBQ+ community members to volunteer to be panelists. Each panelist will speak to their own personal lived experiences and offer a wide range of perspectives on Queer and Transgender issues as well as how Cold Lake citizens can be more inclusive. Following the panelist's presentations, we will host a brave sharing space for any questions or comments. As the question period wraps up, those in attendance will be encouraged to network with each other and visit various community information booths set up in the room.
