There is no career trajectory for a social media manager. 🤷♂️ At least, not like in other marketing fields. Most marketing, you start at a marketing specialist, or marketing associate, or some other role that is mostly just support. No decision making power. You're just a person that contributes ideas to the marketing manager. 👨💼👩💼 Then you climb to marketing manager, then marketing coordinator, then director, VP, and finally the peak is at CMO. But, not for social media. Some companies have a structure, sure, and you're not going to begin as the director of social media. But, where is that starting spot? You may enter the field thrown right into that management role, or you might enter as a social media specialist, or a social media content strategist, etc... There is no clear starting spot or end goal in most companies for social media. Has this been your experience as well?
