Our new national polling finds that Hispanic/Latinx voters want policymakers to expand skills training opportunities in America and consider it one of the most important strategies for improving the economy. We've partnered with UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS) to get new polling data in the hands of Latino leaders and allies. https://lnkd.in/esd-XyM6

It’s the age old question. But why are levels of support for conservatism so low amongst young Brits? And what does this tell us about our society and our political system? Find out in my new article for Europinion.
Right-wing parties are gaining popularity across Europe, attracting significant followings among young voters. However, one nation bucks the trend: the United Kingdom. Danyal Usman asks why many young Britons lean left politically, attributing it primarily to disenchantment with Conservative policies over the last 14 years. He suggests that poor governance, such as the mishandling of housing and the cost-of-living crisis, has eroded trust in conservative politics. Usman contrasts this with other states where conservative views are more prevalent among youth, emphasising that these countries maintain high-quality public services and living standards, fostering greater political trust. #leftwing #unitedkingdom #britons #youth https://lnkd.in/g3xayBKX

Curious about the real state of youth political engagement? Think young people are disinterested? Think again. Our Managing Partner, Shani Newbold, discusses how young people are already politically active in ways that resonate with their experiences and values in her blog titled ‘Meet young people where they are. And it’s not the ballot box’: https://lnkd.in/ePe7buFC.

𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬-𝟐𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝟐𝟒𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭-𝐆𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 - Cleveland's first term in the White House was1885-89 and his second term in the White House was1893-97. -Once in office, Cleveland continued the policy of his predecessor in basing political appointments on merit rather than party affiliation. -He tried to reduce government spending. -Cleveland was a noninterventionist in foreign policy and fought to have protective tariffs lowered. -Cleveland’s second term opened with the worst financial crisis in the country’s history. -Unemployment rose to 19 percent, and a series of strikes crippled the coal and transportation industries in 1894. -Cleveland was inconsistent in his social views as he opposed discrimination against Chinese immigrants in the West but did not support equality for African Americans or voting rights for women, and he thought Native Americans should assimilate into mainstream society as quickly as possible rather than preserve their own cultures. Political power is only effective when accompanied by economic power.
“As Latino politicians amassed power and numbers over the ensuing decades, however, a curious phenomenon emerged: Latino voter participation began to drop dramatically. To this day, Latinos vote at lower rates than any other race or ethnicity in California. At the same time, nearly every high-quality survey of Latino voters identified jobs and the economy as their top concerns.” “Instead, Latinos are still widely misunderstood as an aggrieved racial minority motivated by immigration, farmworker and border issues. This is one of the most striking blind spots in American politics.” “Fifty-five percent of California families in the bottom 10% of incomes are Latino or Black. By virtually every economic metric, in a state with more Latino elected officials than most, Latinos aren’t doing well.” #latino #vote #economy #first #generation #political #power #california https://lnkd.in/gpucCqTe

I believe the future of this country - or any country for that matter - will depend on how politically engaged and how civically educated its population is (especially, its youth). The citizens of any country are individually responsible for its fate. Relying on a collective sense of responsibility is deadly. As we say in business: if everyone is responsible, no one is responsible. Consider this: In 2022, the voting age population of the U.S was about 255 million. The number of registered voters was about 162 million. If you are an American citizen, and you see these numbers, you may think your share of responsibility for America’s problems is 1/255 million. But I would argue that if you are not politically engaged and politically educated, you, personally, are 100% responsible for America’s problems. Do you feel responsible? Let me know your thoughts.

Did You Know? On February 21st, 1887, Oregon played an important part in United States history by becoming the first state to recognize Labor Day as an official public holiday. Though the holiday had already been gaining support amongst labor activists in the early 1880s, it was Oregon that took the big step in giving the day official recognition. #LaborDay #OregonHistory #UnitedStatesHistory #PublicHoliday #LaborActivists #USLaborHistory #AmericanHistory #LaborRights #WorkersRights #LaborMovement #LaborUnions #USHistoryFacts #HistoricalFacts #OregonState #LaborDayHistory #LaborDayCelebration #LaborDayWeekend #LaborDay2021 #LaborDayWeekend2021 #LaborDayUSA #NationalHoliday #WorkingClassHistory #SocialJustice #WorkersSolidarity #LaborDayFacts #LaborDayTrivia

The Latino community in Texas is not just a cultural force but also a driving economic engine, shaping the state's labor force and contributing significantly to its growth. Texan Hispanics are among the nation's top contributors to the state's gross domestic income, generating $465 billion, second only to California Latinos. Their contributions have been instrumental in driving nearly 40% of Texas' economic growth between 2011 and 2021, outpacing similar contributions in California and Florida. Despite their substantial contributions, the report highlights a challenge: the lagging educational attainment among Texas' Latino population. While leading the growth of the country's GDP, entrepreneurship, and innovation, there's a pressing need to invest in higher education and skills training to align with the state's evolving job market. By closing the education gap and providing opportunities for skill development, we can unleash the full potential of Texas' diverse talent pool and ensure shared economic prosperity for all. #LatinosAreTheFuture #EquityInEducation #LatinoWorkforce #EconomicEmpowerment #DiversityandInclusion #TexasEconomy

"Centering investments in sustainable immigration legal services and the Access to Representation Act in the People's Budget is an extraordinary step in support of family unity, economic prosperity, and community stability." — Shayna Kessler, associate director for advocacy for Vera’s Advancing Universal Representation initiative #Breaking: The New York State Black, Puerto Rican, Hispanic, & Asian Legislative Caucus just released their framework for the “2024 People’s Budget.” Centered in the framework of the People’s Budget is a focus on investments in sustainable immigration legal services and the Access to Representation Act. We commend the Caucus for showing up for immigrant New Yorkers. The framework is a demand for justice and calls for the state to protect and build upon policies that protect communities of color. To ensure the state advances a welcoming response to new neighbors and protects longtime New Yorkers, lawmakers must support tangible, long-term solutions. https://lnkd.in/ewuFM7hH
