It was a thrill to join my colleague, Karina Paredes-Arzola, in being part of the electric crowd at UnidosUS (@WeAreUnidosUS)' 2024 Annual Conference in Las Vegas this week. Congratulations to Janet Murguía, Mauricio Andres Garcia, Eric Rodriguez, and everyone on their remarkable team for producing another spectacular event. I was particularly grateful for U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra's touching comments about his life and commitment to our cause. By 2030, one in five U.S. workers will be Hispanic or Latinx, making up 78% of the projected new workforce from 2020 to 2030. Yet, despite our labor market size and enormous contributions, too many Latino workers struggle in low-quality jobs marked by inadequate compensation, limited access to skills training and quality non-degree credentialing programs, insufficient career opportunities, and much more. Simply put: societal barriers prevent many Latinx workers from thriving financially, and it's egregiously unfair. Popular, bipartisan workforce measures are one part of the solution. In this context, we at National Skills Coalition collaborated with UnidosUS to release a new "public perceptions" brief showing that over 70% of Hispanic and Latinx voters believe expanding skills training is crucial for improving the economy, and 80% would seize the chance to enhance their digital skills to get better jobs or advance in their careers. Congrats to my colleagues Rachel Unruh, Nicky Lauricella Coolberth, Carlos D., and Brittany Cannady Powell. Read it here: https://lnkd.in/eJpRBCWC

Robert! I missed you at the conference. Hope to see you soon, my friend.

Being a first generation American and college student, I am always excited to see people that are diverse in positions of leadership and power. Too often I see diversity lacking; as you mention due to social barriers. I was fortunate to have the opportunities and support to get where I am today.
