This Sunday is International Nurses Day (IND) celebrated on 12 May each year and this year's theme is "Our Nurses. Our Future. The economic power of care." The theme focuses on reshaping perceptions and advocating for strategic investment in nursing which is the backbone of health care. The chosen theme, aims to demonstrate the significant economic and societal benefits of investing in nursing, and the nurses that change the lives of patients and their families, every day. #IND2024 and #OurNursesOurFuture.

There’s EBP in Nursing and there’s Design Thinking. When many healthcare organizations are focusing on how to leverage EBP; it is time to build the structures and resources that equip nurses of all levels problem-solving and team-building approaches to heed to their professional accountabilities #DesignThinkingModels must be used along with #EBPmodels! Happy Nurse's Week 2024! I am so proud to be a 4th generation nurse that stands on the shoulders of countless legends. My promise to the nurses that have paved the path for my success so far has 2 parts: 1. I promise to be intentional and grateful. I commit to surround myself with people that share my passion & celebrate each other's contributions - Iron Sharpens Iron. I am ecstatic to work with a courageous and innovative team of Nurses that are mission driven to deliver a workforce reality enabling clinicians with flexibility and the compensation they desire while creating financial sustainability and reliability for healthcare organizations. 2. I promise to say the hard things that need to be said. For instance, as we dive headlong into a new age of disruption & innovation at warp speed: if you're a healthcare leader whose organization is partnering with "technology firms" that don't have a Nurse voice at their executive table, ask them how they develop strategic solutions that are meaningful to real clinical users in a rapidly evolving environment. Then, ask yourself how many hours you've spent teaching them why/how systems need to operate in order to deliver seamless user interfaces & experience. If you don't like the answers, come sit by me and lets talk.

In light of the global shortage of nurses, it's crucial that we prioritise investment in our essential care providers. By bolstering support for nurses in both training and professional practice, we can significantly enhance the quality of healthcare and contribute positively to society. Let's not underestimate the power of investing in our healthcare professionals!

Despite being the backbone of health care, nursing often faces financial constraints and societal undervaluation. Policymakers, health care administrators, and even the general public are often unaware or misinformed about the return on investment that adequate funding in nursing can provide. Most have overlooked the substantial and often underemphasized economic value that nursing contributes to health care and society as a whole. We believe the time is right for a shift in perspective, recognizing and respecting value of nurses that they can contribute to health care and society as a whole.
