Clan tartans are patterns associated with Scottish kinship and identify many Scottish families and their ancestors. They have been an iconic symbol of Scottish culture and kinship tracing its roots to at least the 16th century. There are over 3000 known tartan designs which showcase the diversity of patterns across Scotland. The earliest records of tartan date back to the late 16th century when orders were placed for large pieces of tartan cloth for kilts or plaids in specific clan colours and patterns. Over time certain patterns became attached to particular families or geographical regions. Tartan became an important symbol of Highland culture and clan allegiance. After the defeat of Scottish rebellions in 1745, the British government passed laws in 1747 banning tartan and other aspects of Gaelic culture as a way to undermine the clan system. The world we are a part of never ceases to inspire me, amaze me, and give rise to Awe. There are so many things one may see in this incredible video Søren Solkær captured. (These questions are meant to be rhetorical) Which is the Starling that inspired, began or is leading this murmuration? Is there natural inherent wisdom that occurs with each change of direction? From the observers perspective, what is it about the flow and unified changing of directions that gives rise to a sense that change can be a beautiful dance and isn't always chaotic? What is each individual Starling experiencing being a part of the murmuration? What is each individual Starling seeing? What is causing each individual Starling to move in conjunction with those around it? There has always been a lot that we can learn from nature, Mother Earth. Perhaps the greatest wisdom comes forth from witnessing her. Regardless of where your contemplations lead, I hope for a moment you too experienced a moment of awe when watching the Starlings perform their sky dance.
