Having been able to share my thoughts with the CSJ and having been able to take them round some excellent examples of schools with really good inclusive practice (Beacon of Light AP School/Jarrow School - thank you!) it's good to see some of those themes coming through in these reports. There are huge amounts to unpick around the education system and the reasons for the behaviour and inclusion problems we see. The recommendations on these reports do start the debate and offer some strong practical ways forward. "Maintaining a sharp focus on academic performance is crucial for improving children’s life chances. However, this emphasis should not come at the expense of the most vulnerable pupil groups. The existing accountability framework needs recalibrating if it is to deliver positive outcomes for all pupils, including the most vulnerable." This quote resonated this week after hearing some key educational figures justifying a zero tolerance approach because it gains excellent whole school progress. I'm interested in progression for all our students not most at the cost of a few. I'm passionate that it is possible to create good schools without having to leave some students in our wake because "they don't want to learn" or "I can't teach with them in the room". #schoolleadership #inclusion #classroommanagement #schoolimprovement
