Reflecting on my 16 years at TechTarget, one of the most rewarding aspects of my journey so far has been the incredible friendships I've made along the way. These relationships have been a key reason for my long tenure here. Today, I have the privilege of leading a team of sales professionals who are more than just colleagues—they are like family. Our team is a close-knit group who will drop anything to help one another out. This camaraderie not only makes our work more enjoyable but also significantly enhances our productivity and success. Here’s why building friendships with the people you work with is so vital: Enhanced Job Satisfaction: Working with friends turns daily tasks into meaningful experiences. WE ARE 9! 🎉 A heartfelt thank you to all our candidates and clients who have been an integral part of our incredible journey over the years. Del Connolly, Global Brand Director, shared his thoughts on reaching this momentous milestone: "9 years… not sure where the time has gone! We've come a long way in that period. In many ways, those 9 years can be split into two parts. The first part had some great moments but was arguably overshadowed by very challenging times, where we (I) made a lot of mistakes. Let’s call it character-building, but it also provided valuable opportunities to learn. About 5 years ago, we made a significant shift in the brand and took some brave decisions. We moved into high-growth, resilient sectors, focused on international expansion, and partnered with clients who truly valued collaboration. I’m so happy we doubled down on this approach. Today, we find ourselves working with an amazing set of clients, an unbelievably talented and conscientious team of recruiters, and a clear vision of where we want to go and how to get there. For those who don’t know me or might wonder what I do, it’s been a bit of a journey. I’ve worn a lot of hats in the talent world. From starting out as a recruiter to evolving into talent operations, diving deep into DEI, and now shaping marketing and culture, I've had a non-linear path that touches nearly every aspect of talent strategy. One thing I know is true. Recruiters are at the forefront of real DEI work. We aren’t just gatekeepers for talent; we can be champions of inclusion, diversity, and belonging. When recruiters step up, they can shape more than just a team; they can help reshape entire cultures. I’m passionate about ensuring our hiring processes do more than fill seats. I want them to open doors for voices that have been left out. Sometimes, people aren’t quite sure how to define what I do because my career has been anything but traditional. Wow, 6 years at Bright Network! Where does the time go? 🎉 In that time, so much has changed, and I’m grateful for every moment. Here’s a quick trip down memory lane: - Bright Network went from being the underdog to becoming the UK's most used early career platform (Times Top 100)! - Lost all my hair (totally worth it, though). - Held 4 different roles, all within the exciting world of new business sales. - Had the privilege of working with 3 incredible managers who’ve shaped my journey. - Onboarded over 200 new employers, from enterprise giants to innovative mid-market companies. - Moved offices from Regent Street to Liverpool Street. - Worked from over 70 coffee shops across 15 countries (new environments sooth my ADHD). - Watched our membership grow from 150,000 to 1.3 million bright minds! - Seen the team quadruple in size—and we’re still growing (seriously, check out our live roles)! - Stopped telling people I was an introvert and embraced my authenticity—life got so much better after that. -Met some of the most incredible people - colleagues, clients, members, speakers! Time really does fly when you’re having fun. It’s rare to find purpose-driven work in the corporate world, let alone in a company culture that values results, realness, and rest in equal measure... maybe results a little bit more. In light of recent events, I know I’m exactly where I’m meant to be: fighting for a fairer and more equal society for the next generation. They deserve nothing less. 💪 Here’s to the next chapter! Ever feel like your career is in need of one giant slingshot? You pull back, feel the tension, and then—WHOOSH!—you shoot forward faster than ever. 🎯 I’m a Global Head of Talent Acquisition, and I want to tell you that the slingshot move is 100% okay and sometimes absolutely necessary. Whether it's for personal or professional reasons (often both!), there are times when we need to take a step back to launch ourselves forward. A few years ago, my life was a storm of negativity. I faced toxicity at home and walked into a work environment that was anything but supportive. It seemed like everything in my life needed a reboot so that I could continue to flourish in growth. I made the tough decision to pause my role in leading and building entire programs. I moved cross-country to the Bay Area and took an individual contributor role. And you know what? I’m soooooo happy I did. 😊 Even though my work spoke for itself, my confidence was shattered. I needed time to center myself in a new environment. Once I felt ready, I got back on track. Promotions started rolling in (even off-cycle promos in competitive environments!). I excelled my career to exactly where I deserved to be—more rested, confident, and with strengthened leadership abilities. Remember, it's okay to hit pause. It's okay to step back. Sometimes, it’s the best thing you can do for your career and your well-being. Wow what an experience- thank you ClearCompany for sending me to RecFest USA I had a hell of a time 🤘🏼 Here are some closing thoughts on my first experience: 1️⃣ “Talent Acquisition is a bullet train not a choo choo train.” The industry moves fast and so does the strategy needed to be successful. 2️⃣ Every business experiences some level of pain or significant challenges in hiring. There’s community in that struggle. 3️⃣ Identifying and solving hiring challenges requires support from the business. All parts of the business. 4️⃣ Strategic and innovative solutions to problems don’t happen in a vacuum. The more the merrier. 5️⃣ “If you build it, they’ll come.” Is a good motto to consider with employer branding, or dare I say recuitment marketing. 6️⃣ People will always be the most important asset in any company and hiring drives revenue growth, hard to argue otherwise. 7️⃣ Exposure to thought leadership is an invaluable investment for any hiring team. Especially a team that wants to level up. Think of it as peer to peer consulting. 8️⃣ It’s easy to complain about problems. It’s hard to solve them. Be prepared for a bumpy road before you’re able hit cruise control. Unless you live in Vermont (lol). 9️⃣ The team from RecFest USA was absolutely amazing to work with. No wonder this conference is the talk of legends. And the last thought was the least expected. The level of connection I felt with all the other vendors. Contrary to popular belief, us vendors really do get fulfillment in partnering to solve difficult problems in Talent Acquistion. We like to see the glowup.
