The Be HEARD in the Workplace Act was reintroduced today by Senator Murray and Representative Pressley! This comprehensive legislation will combat workplace harassment and other forms of discrimination by strengthening current law and closing loopholes, including by: - Protecting all workers; - Increasing transparency and accountability; - Codifying into statute existing case law to clarify that sex discrimination at work includes harassment and other forms of discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It will also eliminate the unjust federal sub-minimum wage for tipped workers ($2.13/hour), which makes service workers—who often rely on tips to make ends meet—more vulnerable to harassment. Two things -- one is vocational, and one is professional -- I thoroughly enjoy: 1. Volunteering and freely giving back to my community. 2. Working in a national anti-corruption, public administration, and high-accountability environment. This week brings two of those elements together internationally. Today (5 December) is International Volunteer Day, and 4-8 December is Corruption Awareness Week (International Anti-Corruption Day is observed on 9 December, annually). Vocationally and professionally, take pride in what you, be safe in what you do, be proud of the organisations you represent, protect the community interest, and do the right thing – always. Don’t ever let a few bad apples ruin the crop, as a rotten apple quickly infects its neighbour.   Volunteering is one of the greatest and most rewarding things you can do to give back to your community and I highly recommend it. Being a professional leader, particularly in public service and public administration comes with great trust and responsibility.
