Very well worth watching #PeterOborne in this 15-minute video on recent shenanigans in Westminster with regard to Israel's assault on #Gaza. It's called "The REAL Threat to British Democracy". “The real attack on #democracy does not come from pro-Palestine protesters, it comes from the Tory right and Keir Starmer’s Labour Party,” he says. It's carried by the independent media platform Double Down News (https://lnkd.in/e6EiSgUi). Oborne is a clear thinker on political manipulation. His skill is to look beyond distracting 'right" and "left" categorisations to dissect the behaviours of, and statements by, Conservative and Labour party leaders and MPs. He demystifies the logic gaps between British people's desire for an immediate ceasfire in #Israel-#Palestine and their politicians' responses. I recommend combining that with a read of Conor Gearty's piece in the London Review of Books called "Versions of Denial". It lays out how our governments are failing to respond to people's ardent desire for #peace (https://lnkd.in/eJgXtS3q). These are important dots to join. Personally, when I fail to do this work, I get plagued by confusion and more in the face of the continued killings. It is a relief that people like Oborne and Gearty are doing their work. Kindly stated, US Senator Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) is a dunce. Murphy emphatically declared yesterday on State of the Union (https://lnkd.in/dPdK4PgX): "President Biden is learning the mistakes of US military campaigns in Iraq and Afghanistan. What we learned in both of those efforts was that you cannot defeat a terrorist ideology." Excuse me, Nazism was not a terrorist ideology? Would Murphy have us believe that Nazism was not defeated, albeit at a very painful price, in 1945? You see, the Allies had no choice. Should they have made a deal with Hitler, sparing Hitler's life and preserving Nazi Germany? Of course not. It was an existential war for the Allies. Next question for Murphy: Does Israel have a choice? The Hamas charter calls for the eradication of Israel and the murder of all Jews. Over the past 20 years, tens of thousands of rockets and mortar shells have been fired by Hamas at Israeli towns and cities. Over the course of the ongoing Gaza war, Hamas has fired another 15,000 rockets and mortar shells at Israel. Hamas has said that it will repeat the Oct. 7 attack again and again until Israel is destroyed. On Oct. 7, 1,200 Israeli civilians were slaughtered by Hamas in Israel and another 250 were kidnapped. Given Israel's population and that of the US, this was the equivalent of the brutal murder of some 40,000 Americans and the abduction of another 8,000, many of whom were subsequently murdered, tortured, raped and starved. Had there been such a catastrophic terror attack in the US of such a magnitude, would Murphy have stood idly by and preached, "You cannot defeat a terrorist ideology"? This is an existential war for Israel, a war of no choice. If Iran and its Hamas, Hezbollah and Houthi proxies are not stopped, the US, too, will be confronting Murphy's Law, i.e. anything that can go wrong will go wrong. In this instance, if Iran and its surrogates are not reined in, it will go very, very wrong.
