Today is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities. 𝗗𝗶𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝟭,𝟯 𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆? 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝘁'𝘀 𝟭 𝗶𝗻 𝟲 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀. 1 in 6 of us facing stigma, discrimination, and lack of social support. How do we change this? This year’s theme is "𝘈𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘪𝘧𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘱 𝘰𝘧 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘰𝘯𝘴 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘯 𝘪𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘶𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦." and highlights the need for more inclusivity in all aspects of life and meaningful participation in decision-making and leadership. To strive for just and equitable societies means upholding and respecting the rights of persons with disabilities, promoting their well-being, and ensuring they can actively participate in decision- and policy-making. At Evnia, we acknowledge that breaking barriers & amplifying the leadership of #personswithdisabilities is essential to building an inclusive and sustainable world. Persons with disabilities are changemakers, peacemakers, and leaders. Let's work together for an inclusive and sustainable future! #IDPD #IDPD2024 #InclusionMatters #DisabilityRights #EqualOpportunity #AccessibleWorld #ToStriveToSeekToFind #Evnia_Filotimo #PatientsDoctorsSociety

Today on the International Day of People with Disabilities, we’re amplifying the leadership of women and girls with disability in their communities and regions – reflecting this year’s UN theme. Over the years, people with disabilities and organisations of people with disabilities (OPDs) have championed for change in their communities, paving the path for policy changes and access to basic services that benefit all. IWDA partner Fiji Women's Rights Movement is supporting deaf girls and young women to lead in their communities. Girls like Lavenia, pictured, are not just the leaders of tomorrow – they are the leaders of today. #IDPD

🌍 Today is Human Rights Day 🌍 This is a powerful reminder for us all to reflect and take action to ensure that the rights of all people in society are respected and upheld. At Positive Support Group, we want to highlight the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD)and its vital role in promoting a rights-based approach to disability. As Bengt Lindqvist, former UN Special Rapporteur on Disability, pointed out: "The challenge in adopting a rights-based approach to disability lies in the lack of awareness and understanding of the practical actions required." Let’s bridge this gap together. To explore how organisations in the disability sector can put these rights into practice, check out our video. 📢 We’d also love to hear from you! How does YOUR organisation apply a human rights-based approach in your work with people with intellectual disabilities? Please comment below 👇 #HumanRightsDay #DisabilityRights #Inclusion #UNCRPD #Inclusion #EquityInAction

Last week I had the privilege to speak to over 25 Fortune 500 brands and agencies prepping for their Disability Pride (July) campaigns and we noticed a trend of five common (50% or higher) mistakes we’re seeing well intentioned teams make: - Not saying disabled - Bragging about the minimum - Non disabled saviorism - Running before walking - Incomplete narrative I’m breaking down these one by one to teach you and your teams how to think differently about disability inclusion marketing strategy. Want me to tweak your campaign? Send me a message and I’m happy to help! #InclusiveMarketing #DEI #DEIA #DEIB #DisabilityInclusion #BrandStrategy

Today is Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD). An estimated 16 million people in the U.K. (24% of the population) experience some form of disability. They're the largest group of marginalised people in the world, but sadly one that's often over-excluded in marketing, whether it comes to representation or digital accessibility features. Watch our video with British disability activist and consultant, Dr Shani Dhanda for practical tips on making your marketing campaigns as accessible as they can be → https://goo.gle/3K3YvgM #GAAD #AccessibilityBestPractices #InclusiveMarketing

Today is International Day of People With Disabilities. At The Wilf Ward Family Trust our mission is to enable the individuals we support to live full, independent, and empowered lives. So, this year's theme is truly a vision that resonates deeply with our values: Amplifying the leadership of persons with disabilities for an inclusive and sustainable future. We have always committed to Active Support - rather than doing things for people, we empower individuals to take the lead in their daily activities, from cooking meals to making decisions about their care. Through tailored encouragement and structured support, Active Support meets people where they are, respecting their abilities while fostering growth and independence. On this note, we recently asked some of the individuals we support to talk about their big dreams and ambitions in life. By encouraging them to talk about their big goals, we enable them to take the next steps in making those dreams come true.
