Should there be such a thing as a Data Sharing Officer (DSO)? Alongside or as opposed to a Data Protection Officer (DPO)? Tbh, sign me up! I'm sure being a DSO would have the perception of being an enabler whereas there is a stigma attached to DPO as the resistor... BUT The conversation you can witness here https://buff.ly/3xdFoub at the Institute for Government event 'Lessons from data sharing during the pandemic " with, among other incredibly informed people: Ming Tang, National Director of Data and Analytics for NHS England and Improvement, gives great argument for the DPO already being a DSO due to the multifarious capabilities and understandings of so much about legality, technology, business processes, data cleansing and interpersonal skills. If you're ever in London and want to go to one of these live events with me then just let me know (they're amazing!): "[They] discussed how to maintain this ‘high watermark’ in data use, drawing on various pandemic case studies to highlight lessons and best practice behaviour to continue into the future. The event picked up on different themes from a upcoming IfG report, Data sharing during the pandemic, including: - What data sharing lessons should government learn? - What are the benefits of existing rules and legislation for enabling data sharing? - How do multidisciplinary teams contribute to data sharing success? - What qualities, skills and experience do data-literate leaders require? - What steps can be taken to reduce the perceived risks of data sharing?" #gdpr #dataprotection #research #personaldata #researchers #innovation #futurism #technology #data #future #regulation #compliance #privacy #DataSavesLives #economics #economy #funding #machinelearning #privacypreservingtechnologies #privacyenhancingtechnologies #TRE #TrustedResearchEnvironments #ai #datasharing #sharing #ICO #DataSharing #DPO #DataProtectionOfficer #TheEvidenceQuarter

A really excellent piece of work and something that should certainly be used as the template for further initiatives. If this had been deployed a decade ago, national approaches to patient data would be very much more mature.

Yeah, not clear what the CDAO’s expectations are from the public, but the public do expect when parents, or another responsible adult dies, the child, siblings and familial members in question can get full access to impartial, and accurate facts, no questions asked - other than proving who you are. It’s even more upsetting to know your mum’s own care giver, is now being held to account by the usual methods. For this to work, we need to be more transparent as a collective. If that means extending the length of time death records are held in perpetuity with access, then this is a clear value add to the individual tax payer. https://lnkd.in/g6T8DK9z
https://lnkd.in/eKU8KiJc This is a really clunky article at best mixing up the NHS app and the Federated Data Platform, you'd expect BBC News to do much better. More important than ever that we have the Chief Data and Analytical Officers Network to sift and provide a clear narrative as we see the role out of the 10 year planned move from analogue to digital.

We're proud to be contributing to the Connect 4 project, which explores ways of joining together data access across the UK's four nations 🤝 The project is led by EPCC, and involves contributions from RDS, the Integrated Data Service (which has the Office for National Statistics as its lead delivery partner), National Records of Scotland, and Public Health Scotland. Jen Muir, Senior Data Analyst at RDS, said: “The roadmap will be the first step in delivering federated data access across the UK’s four nations. "RDS is leading on describing a shared service model that the UK national TREs could adopt to provide a sustainable route for federated data access for research, and an information governance (IG) framework to support and enable the model with recommendations for policies across the TREs. These work packages will help provide clarity for researchers working across the system and requesting safe and secure access to data.” Find out more 🔗👇 https://lnkd.in/eXHWPTRH

FINAL REPORT: COVID Select Subcommittee Concludes 2-Year Investigation, Issues 500+ Page Final Report on Lessons Learned and the Path Forward An interesting read? May have some points to consider. No matter which side of the blame game or fence you land on, it is worth looking at things and giving them a good think. If you disagree with a report or data, it is still valuable to know what is out there. Remember, even someone who is wrong can still be a great "bad example"! https://lnkd.in/gyaHqUWv

This HSJ webinar, in association with Experian Data Quality, will bring together an expert panel to discuss: • How much of a problem is inadequate, incorrect, or outdated patient data for the NHS? What are the consequences of this? • How can trusts ensure that the basic data they hold about patients — such as correct names and addresses — is as up-to-date as possible? • How can “data silos” be overcome so that everyone involved in a patient’s care is seeing the same basic data? • What can be learnt from organisations that have made a concerted attempt to “cleanse” their data? What sort of improvements have they seen, and what does this mean for the NHS? Register today: https://lnkd.in/eRQ942HA #hsjwebinars
