It’s hard to say if Muki Kulhan is the metaverse’s most enthusiastic skeptic or its most skeptical enthusiast. Either way, she’s ready to roll up her sleeves and do the hard work to build “the kind of metaverse we all want to go to.” Kulhan shies away from using the “M word,” because “we aren’t there yet when it comes to experience and immersion.” Instead she suggests to Nathan C in this conversation from AWE EU ('22) that we’re slowly building a miniverse—the first small scale prototype of our spatial computing dreams. Muki notes the many barriers to adoption of new technologies is due to how new these ideas and technologies are. With decades of experience leveraging emerging technology for fan experiences like music, sports, and streaming media, the CTO and head of MUKI-INTERNATIONAL LTD, sees the metaverse as much more than just one technology or headset. She sees an ecosystem of experiences, of communication, of collaboration, and most importantly of interoperable technologies that allow a person or idea to flow seamlessly across boundless spaces and communities.
