Epic roadtrip through Western and Central QLD last week with Kerry McGowan and Jason Taylor along with some of our specialist Agri Executives and local Branch leaders. Over 3000km, 4 stops, some great conversations with cattle and cotton customers and some melt in the mouth wagyu along the way. Longreach, Muttaburra, Emerald and Moura this trip. Many thanks to our wonderful hosts, Sarah and David Fysh in Muttaburra and Mike and Sue McCosker in Emerald for having us on farm for our lunch events and for being so generous in sharing their own farming stories and experiences. Was also great to finish off the week supporting the Nobbs Family annual bull sale in Moura and presenting our Commonwealth Bank cheque for $1000 to the highest volume buyer ! Key take outs from the week : 🐂 At our customer lunch in Muttaburra I loved that there were more planes in the paddock than utes in the driveway - that’s how they roll in western QLD ! Innovation, efficiency and smart farming, along with a fabulous sense of community, rules out here ! 🐂 There’s deep curiosity to know more about carbon markets, to understand the pros and cons of establishing a project and to consider how producers can participate. Lots of great questions and discussion on this topic. 🐂 Decisions to try new data and tech, to integrate new farming practices and to explore new opportunities are being embraced and backed up by investment spend. This forward thinking is building profitable, productive and resilient farming businesses. These farms will be well placed to take advantage of the opportunities which are emerging from being able to tell your story well. 🐂 We need to work together with industry and govt bodies to identify ways to support the next generation of producers take that next step onto either leased or purchased country. We met some amazing young producers who really are the future of farming. One for us to think more about. It was a terrific week where we were able to share our positive outlook for Australian agriculture and QLD beef, the global macro thematics impacting ag, our carbon capabilities and green financing options as well as how we are supporting the ag industry through partnerships, investments and research. My cup is definitely full ! Thanks to everyone involved in organising our trip and to all those who travelled distances to join us.
