A longform piece I scripted and directed for the John Templeton Foundation and Big Think, starring Lee Cronin, Regius Chair of Chemistry at the University of Glasgow. It's all about how matter becomes complex life, mainly focusing on his Assembly Theory: a mathematical framework for quantifying selection and evolution. This theory suggests that life emerges through two key processes: copying and existence. These two simple words, Cronin explains, are the essential essences of life as we know it.   NASA has tested this theory in hopes of searching for lifeforms on other planets, as Cronin believes that life might look so different across the universe that it wouldn't match up with what we categorize as life here on Earth. However, complexity would look the same. And if we can measure that, we can potentially identify life anywhere. Together, we are growing closer to understanding the mystery of life – how it started, what it looks like, and how it might evolve.

Student leaders shine at the University of Arizona! A team led by a graduate student identified 10-times more supernovas in the early universe than were previously known, with some of these newfound exploding stars being the most distant examples of their type! May 6 - 10 join this event to see earth's amazing coast lines. NASA has diligently monitored Earth's water from space, yet a persistent observational gap has remained: coastal sea level. This crucial data, vital for coastal communities anticipating the dire consequences of rising seas, has proven challenging to capture due to its fluctuating nature. However, the Surface Water and Ocean Topography mission, or SWOT, is revolutionizing this field by offering scientists unprecedented high-resolution data. SWOT's ability to measure the height of almost all water on Earth's surface from space presents an unparalleled opportunity for comprehensive understanding. After over a year in orbit, SWOT has furnished intricate insights into coastal flooding, the warming of our oceans, and the global rise in sea levels, marking a significant stride in our comprehension of Earth's water systems.

April 8th is here! Where will you be today? My hometown, Conway, Arkansas is about 25 miles northwest of Little Rock, is one of the most prime places to see the total eclipse on Monday, April 8th. This eclipse path of totality will be much wider than the total eclipse of 2017 and move much slower. So, you'll get to enjoy it more than double the amount of time, check out NASA's website for details. Here's my observations so far: ✅ The population of Arkansas is expected to double for a couple of days. ✅ The city has been preparing for about two years for this moment. ✅ A lot of people are excited and some people don't care. ✅ Some are dreading the traffic, increase prices, etc. I fall in the middle. I'll watch it and I think it's pretty amazing. However, I'm proud of our city leaders for going out of their way to try and make this a great experience even with all the increased issues that most likely will come with it. Great leadership in times like this is noticeable and much appreciated by those who understand challenges like this. There are two ways to view this from a leadership perspective. 1. Dread the hassle and increased workload. 2. Embrace the opportunity to grow and do your best! So, how about you? Do you embrace challenges like this or dread them? On a practical note... UC Santa Cruz researchers contributed to new studies out this week that enhance our understanding of exoplanets. The first, in the Astrophysical Journal Supplement, catalogs 126 exoplanets discovered with NASA’s TESS and W. M. Keck Observatory, detailing diverse planet types. A second set, published in Nature, investigates "puffy" exoplanets like WASP-107b using data from NASA's James Webb and Hubble Space Telescopes, attributing their puffiness to tidal heating from their non-circular orbits.
