This is for the community of individuals who are looking to be hired. Who are seeking opportunities to express their ability and skills. Who want to give themselves in service in organisations.
Do not let the description attached to the job role stop you from applying.
Let me put it in other words, do not be discouraged by the description of the role/position you are interested in.
Many times, organisations send hiring messages out with the description that reads, ‘We are looking to hire a 3 - 5 years experienced Graphic Artist, Video Editor or Personal Assistant or Sales Manager with so, so and so certifications. Must have the ability to multitask, must speak 4 languages and must live in so, so and so places.’ They may not be this explicit but we see a lot of things in the description of hiring messages.
The above shouldn't stop you from applying. Sometimes, what the hiring managers are looking out for could be the right attitude and the right approach to work. As, sometimes, these attitudes and moral values are better, attractive and tend to get more work done than expertise.
What am I saying? Should we then dish expertise when work is concerned? No!
What I am saying is that we should have both the expertise and the right attitudes to work and in the workplace.
I have been in a leadership role that warranted me to assess people who are looking to work in our organisation and I tell you friends, attitude and the right character speak louder than expertise. Sometimes, people can be dishonest in their portfolios but opportunity for growth is given to individuals who have the right attitude and are willing to grow over time.
When you see a role that you are interested in, apply for it. Go for it. It is yours. Don't let the job description deter you. You can do it.
What do you do as an individual who is so passionate about something, a role or an opportunity in an organisation but you don't have the certification yet? Apply to intern in that organisation. Many organisations want to help individuals grow, and before you know it, you would gain entry into an organisation and hone your skills. To put it in other words, you improve on your skills and gifts.
The basic requirements for every job opportunity are the skill (you may not have the certification yet), the right attitude, good character, diligence, being proactive and a good work ethic. You are good to go!
