Quality summer programs and camps play a pivotal role in mitigating the effects of summer learning loss, a phenomenon where children can lose a significant amount of the knowledge and skills they acquired during the school year. These camps provide structured, yet enjoyable, educational activities that keep children's minds engaged and active. This continuous engagement ensures that children return to school in the fall better prepared and less likely to struggle with the transition back to school. Camps that offer specialized programs in areas such as technology, arts or environmental studies provide children with opportunities to delve deeper into subjects that interest them, fostering a love of learning that extends beyond the classroom. By addressing the educational needs of children during the summer months, these camps play an essential role in combating summer learning loss and promoting long-term academic success.

Big thanks to Kent Johnson and Highlights for Children for supporting our campaign and speaking out about why investment in early childhood development is so important. This is relevant to all of us but particularly needed across rural America. Families in rural America have far less access to licensed, center-based childcare than do families living in non-rural areas. In non-rural communities, each child lives within a 10-mile driving distance of, on average, 1.3 childcare centers. In contrast, each child in rural America lives within a 10-mile driving distance of only 0.04 childcare centers. These statistics include center-based, school-based, and religious facility-based childcare facilities including Head Start. You can help. Use the link below to ask Congress for investments in support of early childhood education.
"Instead of looking forward to the first day of school, millions across the U.S. worry they won’t be able to keep up with their classmates. But child care and early learning can change that." Highlights is a proud supporter of Save the Children US's Make Summer Fair campaign. This important program provides resources to kids over the summer. You can support their work by emailing Congress in support of early childhood education. This is more than a child issue - it is a workforce issue, an economic issue, and a moral issue. https://lnkd.in/gSpWwGxq

Children who have dropped out of school often encounter a significant gap in both educational and skill levels compared to their peers of the same age At #EducateMe_Community_Schools, we have implemented the #acceleration_program, an intensive 30-day summer camp designed to address this challenge. Through this program, we aim to assist children in advancing within the school system, and fostering the development of their social and emotional skills. Our approach involves addressing each child's weaknesses comprehensively, working diligently until they not only overcome challenges but also regain a strong sense of self-confidence. The results have been noteworthy, with 50 out of 73 students successfully passing one or two levels higher than their pre-program level. #EducationTransformsSociety #ImpactfulEducation

Bridging the Summer Gap: Why Continued Learning is Crucial — PRBuzz.co — Summer #Learning #Vital #Reading #Activities Bonding MILPITAS, Calif., May #30 #2024 Raising a #Reader a #national #leader in #early literacy and #family #engagement emphasizes the critical importance of continuous learning over the #summer months. "The summer #months #offer an #opportunity to reinforce and #build upon the learning that occurs during the #school year," #said #Michelle Sioson Hyman, #Senior #Vice #President #Program and Partnerships at Raising a Reader. "However, #without resources and learning activities, children can experience significant setbacks in their educational progress, commonly referred to as the 'summer slide.'" "The summer is a chance to strengthen school-year learning," Michelle Sioson Hyman, Senior VP at Raising a Reader, highlights. "Without resources, kids face the 'summer slide,' hindering educational progress." The Importance of Summer Learning Research indicates that students can lose up to two months of reading and math skills if they are not actively learning over the summer. This loss is more pronounced among students from families navigating strategic barriers, who may have less access to educational resources during the break. Key Strategies for Effective Summer Learning " We know that by providing families resources to incorporate fun ways of learning at home throughout the summer, we can help students return to school ready to learn and succeed," added Sioson Hyman. "Our Super Summer Learning Adventures Program is designed to make learning a fun and integral part of the summer for every child and their family."
