"I want 988 to be as ubiquitous in our culture as 911. I want every young person to not even hesitate, to not even think -- if they are struggling, if their friend is struggling, if their parent or sibling is struggling -- to feel like 988 is a natural place for them to reach out to and to know what they're going to get when they reach out." - NAMI Chief Advocacy Officer, Hannah Wesolowski

There is also an opening for marketing this service to the disabled, those afflicted with incurable diseases/conditions, seniors (a very small demographic in this area, but it has been directed to them on occasion), and to make sure that veterans are kept in the know as well (I think they also have their own connection, but not all are aware of that either.) Let's make sure that 988 has branches that can reach everyone--and make sure that those providing the service are well trained and have a heart to do so (I myself called in, and did not find the service useful, as I got a person who was more concerned with me talking, rather than helping me do so. Not everyone who calls is the same. I was blessed to be able in that late hour to get a friend who helped me get through my "bad spell" in my depression. ) Sometimes reps may be tired as well, so let's help get more on board to help if they can!! A wonderful service, that we ALL can help make and keep better! 💖

988 saved my 12 (now 13) year old sons life. I am forever grateful to this simple yet life saving number and the people behind it. As a psychiatric nurse, I have shared this number with so many patients, often they have never heard about it. Please keep this number as a part of mental health conversations, it can be a matter of life or death for some. Thank you for all the hard work to make this launch possible. 🩷

This is an amazing resource that I teach in my Mental Health First Aid courses and let them know that anyone can call and ask for assistance in a situation. It isn't just for someone going through the crisis, but also for the family or the First Aider who is helping. It is a remarkable resource and will continue to save lives every year 💚

There is so badly a need for marcom, public health, and community engagement strategies to raise awareness of these services and to differentiate them, such that appropriate supports are directed to the right resources at the right time. There also needs to be a transparent decision-making process for those folks who are answering calls.

Who is marketing 988? A strong, strategic marketing effort will help build the awareness the 988 community is seeking. I remember when 911 first was implemented, there was a concerted marketing push to build awareness. 988 could use the same thing.

988 is a lifesaver. A call to 988 directs immediate resources to families experiencing a crisis related to mental illness. If needed, this includes a visit from a mobile crisis unit with specially trained professionals skilled.

Agree with everyone here. But let’s make sure there’s enough capacity to handle volume that would follow a marketing push.

I recently shared the 988 information with an elderly group of people who had no idea such a thing existed. I was shocked. We can do more to promote! So grateful for the important work of those involved. Now, let's make sure everyone knows about it!
