🌟 Get ready for another enlightening chapter in the "BMS Diaries" series! 🎉 Let's talk about presentations and moot courts—two exhilarating experiences that not only tested our skills but also provided invaluable insights into the world of academia and law. Presentations were more than just a platform for showcasing our knowledge; they were opportunities for engagement, learning, and growth. As we stood before our classmates, we didn't just deliver information; we sparked discussions, answered questions, and challenged each other's perspectives. It was a collaborative journey where every presentation became a collective exploration of ideas and concepts. But perhaps the most thrilling aspect of our journey was the moot courts. Stepping into the shoes of legal practitioners, we simulated courtroom scenarios, argued cases, and navigated the intricacies of law. It was a crash course in critical thinking, persuasion, and advocacy, where every argument and counter-argument sharpened our skills and broadened our understanding of the legal process. Through presentations and moot courts, we learned the art of persuasion, the importance of thorough research, and the power of effective communication. We discovered the nuances of argumentation, the significance of precedent, and the complexities of legal reasoning. It was an immersive experience that not only deepened our appreciation for the law but also prepared us for the challenges that lie ahead. As we reflect on our journey through presentations and moot courts, we are grateful for the opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve as aspiring professionals. These experiences have shaped us into more confident, articulate, and analytical individuals, ready to tackle the complexities of the world with courage and conviction. Stay tuned for more riveting tales of growth, discovery, and transformation in the upcoming episodes of the "BMS Diaries" series! 🎓 #Presentations #MootCourts #LearningExperience #BMSDiaries

Corporate Commercial Lawyer | Strong reviews and recommendations about my highly developed skill sets | soft skills advocate | Business Analyst
That was me giving a presentation on the importance of soft skills after intensive weeks at the academic accelerator program, an advanced business seminar organized by the entrepreneurship center at the university of Dundee, United Kingdom. Thank you to the organizers and all the facilitators for such an opportunity to be a part of the training. As a commercial lawyer I understand that beyond the knowledge of the law I need to have entrepreneurial skills to help me effectively serve my clients, I therefore invest in equipping myself with the necessary skills. Why was I talking about the importance of soft skills? In 2017 fresh from law school I had a job at a corporate/commercial law firm and I lost the job because, in the words of the managing partner ‘I was not adding value to the firm’. This was true because at board meetings I did not have anything tangible to add, I was not effective at communicating, I did not critically think to solve clients problems, I was not so confident. After I lost that job I was home for several months and my journey of self and skill development began. I remember starting out with volunteering where I developed several soft skills like critical thinking, problem solving, emotional intelligence, effective communication etc. I invested in myself during the season. Moving on from there I have worked in others firms and added great value before undertaking my masters in International commercial law at the University of Dundee, United Kingdom where I graduate with a distinction (Thank you Jesus and thank you everyone who supported me) In addition to being an effective lawyer, I now create content to help people develop soft skills. I plan to carry out a training very soon for lawyers on soft skills and understanding the business of law. I believe that as lawyers especially those of us in the corporate/commercial space, if we are going to effectively serve our clients it is beyond understanding the law, it takes skills such as effective communication, emotional intelligence, empathy, critical thinking, problem solving etc. As I progress I will also extend this training to other professionals, students, business onwers etc. In the meantime focus on continuous soft skill development if you really want to stand out and solve problems.

Chair ABA Section of Dispute Resolution | Attorney & Mediator | AI & LegalTech Specialist | Practice Building Consultant | Keynote Speaker | Two Award-Winning Podcasts, One in the Top 1% Globally | Best Selling Author
On Sunday I attended a Masterclass with friend and colleague Lee Jay Berman, Mediator at the National Academy of Distinguished Neutrals Training Retreat. Now you may hear this phrase “masterclass” thrown around a lot these days but I now know the difference between the generic use of the phrase, as an advanced training, to what this was - a class led by a Master. For three hours Lee Jay kept over 100 very experienced practitioners engaged as he led us through an exercise in reflection, discernment and discussion while subtly and yes, masterfully, maintaining control and momentum. If he can do that, I can only imagine how good he is in the mediation room. He is a Master! #nadn #masterclass #trainingretreat

As we welcome a new generation of lawyers into the profession, there's an emerging challenge that law schools didn’t prepare them for—the art of soft skills. In a recent Southren Soundbites conversation, Elisabeth and Kelly discussed how many young lawyers, who spent much of their education online due to COVID, are entering the workforce without the face-to-face learning experiences that typically foster crucial interpersonal skills. These aren't just nice-to-have—they’re essential for thriving in a law firm environment. The Reality: Senior lawyers often assume that new hires have these skills, but that's not always the case. The organic, lived experiences that shape a lawyer’s ability to communicate, network build, and seek mentorship are simply different when learned online. The Solution: It’s time to bridge the gap. Senior lawyers and firm leaders need to proactively guide these young professionals, while young lawyers must take initiative to seek out mentorship and actively develop the skills they missed in virtual classrooms. At Southren Group Inc., we’re here to support both new lawyers and law firms in navigating this new landscape. Let’s equip the next generation with the tools they need to succeed—not just in their technical legal skills, but in their day-to-day professional interactions. #LawFirmLeadership #LegalTraining #ProfessionalDevelopment #SouthrenGroup #MentorshipMatters

🍎 Happy National Teachers' Day! 📚 Today, we pay tribute to the incredible teachers who have shaped us, not just academically but also in our business endeavors.
