Time has a peculiar way of accelerating when we're engrossed in work that ignites our passion. Reflecting on my journey at Truveta, I'm vividly reminded of Jordan Peterson's perspective on pursuing what is meaningful, not just what is expedient. In the nascent days of Truveta, a handful of dedicated engineers gathered – not in a state-of-the-art office, but wherever we could find space. This was during the pandemic, a time when traditional work environments were upended. Yet, it was here, amidst uncertainty, that our vision for revolutionizing healthcare data began to take shape. We didn't have much – no data, no established roadmap. But, thanks to our early members like Providence, Trinity, AdvocateAurora, and Northwell, we secured our first crucial datasets. Fast forward to today, and it's almost surreal. Truveta now processes data of 105+ million patients, collaborating with more than 30+ members, and serving over 25+ esteemed customers. Our platform has evolved to support not only structured EHR but also unstructured notes and diverse medical images, extending into the realms of genomics – a testament to our growth and adaptability. This journey echoes Peterson's ethos: facing the unknown, embracing responsibility, and finding meaning in the pursuit of something greater than ourselves. I am deeply grateful to my team, peers, and all our members. Your support has been the cornerstone of our progress. As we continue on this path, I want to pause and express my heartfelt thanks to everyone who has been part of this extraordinary journey. In the wake of COVID-19, the influence of decision models on public policy has been under intense scrutiny. Ensuring transparency and trust in these models is crucial for informed decision-making. Enter DAMWOOD, an extension of the DAGWOOD framework, tailored for decision analytic models. DAMWOOD stands for Decision Analytic Models with Omitted Objects Displayed. It helps identify and illustrate elements excluded from decision models, classifying these omissions as exclusions, misdirections, or structural decisions. By making these omissions explicit, DAMWOOD enhances communication between model developers and stakeholders, ensuring better input, feedback, and ultimately, more reliable policy decisions. This framework aims to bridge the gap between complex model structures and the practical needs of decision-makers, fostering greater transparency and trust in public policy development.

🌍🎉 Our ‘Covid19 in MS global data-sharing initiative (GDSI)’, launched in 2020 to investigate the effects of COVID-19 on people with Multiple Sclerosis (MS), has achieved a remarkable (and last) milestone with the acceptance of our recent manuscript in the high-impact Journal 'Scientific Data' (Nature). Back in 2020, the GDSI quickly resulted in the largest federated data network on Covid10 in people with MS, aggregating data from >20 sources across over 80 countries, delivering crucial insights that have helped update global advice for people with MS. 📊✨ A major triumph of our work was the ability to collate and analyze data from existing registries and cohorts, ensuring the long-term storage and governance of this invaluable data. With the closure of our central platform in 2022, a challenge arose: some data, directly shared by clinicians and individuals with MS, risked being lost forever. 🛑💔 In alignment with our core value of open science—"to be as open as possible and as closed as needed"—we took a decisive step to preserve and share this unique dataset. This action underscores our commitment to transparency and allows for ongoing research and educational activities, ensuring that the insights gained from this data continue to benefit the global MS community and beyond. 🌐📚 I would like to thank Hamza K. and the other co-authors Lotte Geys, Peer Baneke and Giancarlo Comi 🌟 Hamza, your expertise in real-world data handling and anonymization strategies played a pivotal role in the success of this paper titled "Patient level dataset to study the effect of COVID-19 in people with Multiple Sclerosis."
