Happy Monday! Here is this week’s :60 Seconds for Safety message. September is National Preparedness Month and the theme for the 2024 observance is “Start a Conversation.” Discussing unpleasant topics such as injury, illness, and emergency can be difficult, but to be prepared to handle any of these types of incidents we all need to be prepared. Being prepared means having the supplies/tools you need to handle an emergency, and that you have a plan for how to handle the situation. Take the time to revisit your emergency plans and emergency kits in September. For more information on National Preparedness Month and how you can be ready to keep yourself, your colleagues, and your family safe in an emergency visit www.ready.gov. You Can’t Just Wing It 🐔 Think emergency drills are just a formality? Think again. If your idea of a drill is a leisurely stroll to the exit, you're doing it wrong. Here's how to make your drills actually worth something: 💥 Surprise Attack - Emergencies don’t RSVP. Randomize your drills to keep everyone on their toes. 🔄 Role Reversal - Have staff switch roles during a drill to understand different responsibilities and challenges. 🌏 Real-World Scenarios - Incorporate realistic scenarios like blocked exits or medical emergencies to test adaptability. 🏋♀️ Full Inclusion - Everyone participates, especially those with mobility issues. Got Evacuation Chairs? Use them. 📋 Post-Drill Debrief - Analyze and discuss what went wrong and what went right. Continuous improvement is key. Emergency preparedness isn’t just about checking boxes; it’s about saving lives. Make your drills count. For advice on all things Safety, get in touch with us, an expert can help be the difference to your evacuations.
