🌿 Exciting News for Brain Health! 🌿 A recent study from the Rush Memory and Aging Project has uncovered a potential key to reducing the risk of Alzheimer’s dementia: flavonols! 🍎🍊 🔬 Study Findings: The study involved 921 participants with an average age of 81.2 years, with 75% being female. Participants with the highest intake of flavonols had a significantly lower risk of developing Alzheimer’s dementia. Specifically: Higher total flavonol intake was associated with a 48% reduced risk. Kaempferol intake was associated with a 51% reduced risk. Myricetin intake was associated with a 38% reduced risk. Isorhamnetin intake was associated with a 38% reduced risk. Quercetin intake showed no significant association. 🏃♂️ Those who consumed more flavonol-rich foods also tended to have higher education levels and more participation in physical and cognitive activities. 🫐 Flavonol-Rich Foods: Berries, apples, tea, spinach, kale, and broccoli. What is the right amount of sleep to reduce the risk of diabetes? A study of more than 240,000 people in the UK Biobank found that sleeping less than 6 hours daily was a notably higher risk factor for developing type 2 diabetes than for those who slept for 7 to 8 hours. Recently I have attended a webinar on "Health disparities in pediatric sleep disorders" and wanted to share it with my network. This refers to the differences in the prevalence, diagnosis, and treatment of sleep-related issues among children from various demographic, socioeconomic, and cultural backgrounds. These disparities can manifest in several ways, impacting access to care, quality of treatment, and overall health outcomes for affected children. Factors contributing to health disparities in pediatric sleep disorders include socioeconomic status, race/ethnicity, geographical location, and cultural beliefs. Understanding and addressing these disparities are crucial for developing equitable healthcare strategies that ensure all children receive appropriate diagnosis and treatment for sleep-related issues, promoting overall well-being and healthy development #sleepdisorders
