Time flies when you are having fun! I can't believe it has been 10 years!! P.A.I.N.T. is an acronym for Promoting Arts, Individuals and Natural Talents. Viewing disabilities as "hidden abilities" that simply need to be unlocked reframes the conversation around potential and capabilities. It emphasizes the importance of recognizing and nurturing the unique talents and strengths of individuals, regardless of any challenges they may face. By focusing on uncovering and fostering these hidden abilities, we can create a more inclusive and supportive environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive and make meaningful contributions.

Stop expecting people to just implement accessibility because its a human right or someone is going to sue you. If that is all you are using as an argument for accessibility, than don't be surprised that you make little to no impact. The human race struggles to solve issues like world peace, global hunger, climate change, housing and universal healthcare (just to name a few). So why should we just expect everyone to care about accessibility? Does this mean we should stop trying... NO! What it does mean is we need to think differently about how to promote, build awareness and 'sell' accessibility. We need to remember that this is a people issue. Every piece of digital technology is designed and developed by people. If we are not winning hearts and minds than we are not building momentum. Yesterday was 'Human Rights Day' The theme to celebrate Human Rights Day 2023 is 'Freedom, Equality and Justice for All.' At Dewis CIL, we recognise choice as a fundamental right and believe disabled people have the freedom to choose and take control of their lives. Dewis is committed to supporting disabled people, regardless of disability and aims to promote diversity and equality across Wales. Our vision is to provide support for disabled people, to help them achieve an independent way of living by: Supplying disabled people and their families with a support scheme to employ personal assistants. Creating greater opportunities for disabled people’s independence. Enabling disabled people and their families to have a voice. Providing support to help people achieve their personal goals and objectives. Recruit, develop and train volunteers, providing greater opportunities for all. Developing Dewis’s services by working with disabled people. Improving people’s quality of life by providing choice. Removing any barriers that limit flexibility, choice, and control. Promoting diversity and equality for all. Supporting disabled people to fight for their rights.

For today's #DisabilityPride post let's talk about disability inclusion in the performing arts AND paying artists for their incredible work. I heard about this fellowship opportunity through Broadwayworld yesterday (shout out to all the theater geeks like me) and I wanted to share for two reasons: 1. Dance can be and should be for everyone who wants to be a part of it. 2. Artists should be paid for their time, talents, skills, and passion just like other professionals. Art is for everyone.
