The Reinsurance Association of America and NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to collaborate on the shared goal of analyzing and communicating weather and climate hazard risks to key stakeholders. Together, they can be even more intentional in taking action to protect and help American people in connection with extreme weather events. Munich Re US geoscientists and climate experts are happy to have supported this collaboration and look forward to working together with both organizations in the future. 🌍 Exciting News for Climate Resilience! 🌊 As climate change transforms the way we live, it is inspiring to see communities rising to the challenge. I'm thrilled to be a part of the Digital Coast and broader NOAA team behind the Climate Resilience Regional Challenge, aimed at increasing resilience to climate related events. The overwhelming demand for this funding, evidenced by nearly 870 letters of intent, shows that communities are not only willing but also able to tackle climate challenges. This commitment is crucial for fostering a sustainable and resilient future for all. 🔍 Learn more about these groundbreaking projects and the impact they will have on our coastal regions: https://lnkd.in/efXqaHnK Together, we can make a difference! Let's continue to support and uplift these critical efforts for a sustainable and resilient future. #ClimateResilience #NOAA #EnvironmentalSustainability #CoastalManagement #ClimateChange #Sustainability #ResilientCommunities
In order to increase resilience to extreme weather events, NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration funded the Climate Resilience Regional Challenge to invest in holistic, collaborative approaches to coastal resilience at regional scales. After reviewing nearly 870 letters of intent, 19 projects totaling $575 million have been recommended for funding. https://lnkd.in/eUjixDBQ

#Masses_of_fish_die_in_Vietnam_amid_heatwave. NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration predicts more frequent extreme weather events globally as we approach 2100. Thats why I'm excited to work on a project with the Austrian water management federal agency for my #MSc, focusing on #brown_trout-temperature adaptation. It's a proactive step towards informed #conservation strategies in light of #climate change's impending impact. https://lnkd.in/dTjmM8F2

A study published in npj Climate and Atmospheric Science by Vittorio A. Gensini and Harold E. Brooks sheds light on the changing landscape of tornado frequencies in the United States. The findings indicate a shift in tornado occurrences, with a decrease in the traditional “Tornado Alley” and an increase in the Southeast’s “Dixie Alley.” This study underscores the dynamic nature of weather patterns and the need for ongoing research to understand and mitigate the impacts of severe weather events. Visualizing the Impacts of Sea Level Rise on Coastal Areas and Communities Using the ArcGIS Pro 3D Model Using ArcGIS Pro 3.3, I've developed a 3D model of Miami Beach, Florida to visualize the potential consequences of sea level rise. Sea level rise data, encompassing various climate scenarios, is sourced from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and data for this analysis have been retrieved from ArcGIS Living Atlas. The distinct symbologies assigned to buildings represent inundation in the years 2030 (yellow), 2050 (orange), and 2090 (red), along with areas expected to remain unaffected (green). #climateMOOC

NCICS staffers made crucial contributions to “State of the Climate in 2023,” a major annual report released today by the American Meteorological Society. Carl Schreck co-led the “Tropics” chapter, on which John Uehling served as an author. Laura Stevens edited the North America section of the “Regional Climates” chapter; Garrett Graham was an author on the “Global Oceans” chapter; and Jessicca Allen provided graphic design support for the full report. Produced by NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration National Centers for Environmental Information, “State of the Climate” shows that in 2023 greenhouse gas concentrations reached a record high, and the global surface temperature also set a new record—climbing to approximately 1°F above the 1991–2020 average. #Read Financial Times Journalists Jana Tauschinski + Emiliya Mychasuk report that Oceans marked 365 straight days of record-breaking global surface sea temperatures this week, fueling concerns among international scientists that climate change could push marine ecosystems beyond a #TippingPoint https://lnkd.in/eK6JcNRA #MainPoints: ‣ Driven by human-caused climate change and amplified by the cyclical El Niño weather phenomenon that warms the Pacific Ocean, this exceptional heat has bleak implications ‣ Richard (Rick) Spinrad, the US under secretary and administrator of NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration, said this week that the warming would have “rather dramatic impacts on major storms, on ecosystems” ‣ NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration warned earlier this month that the world was on the brink of experiencing its fourth global mass coral reef bleaching event ‣ NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration’s Coral Reef Watch https://lnkd.in/eR5iy2GV introduced three new bleaching alert levels as several regions, particularly in the eastern Pacific and Greater Caribbean, experienced such extreme heat stress that it was no longer sufficiently captured by the old scale ‣ “If you look at the record, we are seeing certainly tropical cyclones forming earlier than June 1, and we’re seeing systems extending well beyond the end of November. So that, hurricane season has certainly become longer both on the front and the back” ‣ The world’s oceans absorb 90% of the excess heat and energy released by greenhouse gas emissions that are trapped in the Earth’s system and are the cause of climate change
