The UK's dark history of colonisation and slavery has come under relentless scrutiny, and the resounding calls for reparations are gathering momentum. Patrick Robinson, a leading Judge at the International Court of Justice, insists that the UK must heed the mounting appeals for transatlantic slavery reparations. This aligns with the pressing dialogues on addressing historical injustices, particularly surrounding British war crimes in Ireland. https://bit.ly/45hJqB6 #HistoricalInjustices #JusticeForAll #BritishWarCrimesIreland

This is fantastic news. I'm really pleased (heartened, even!) to see this example of collaboration between a national government and researchers looking at #antiracism and #decolonisation in museums and galleries. I believe that through knowledge comes empowerment. Being able to learn, to heal together, to move forward and choose who we want to be NOW, is only really possible if we acknowledge what came before. This means learning about the whole past - not just the parts that make us look good. Heritage institutions like museums and archives are like the 'database' of a country. They're where we go when we seek self-knowledge. They are where concepts like national memory, truth and legacy are constructed, over and over again with each passing era, through curatorial and archival practices. This is why it is crucial(!) for them to be able to speak honestly about history. All of this to say, hats off to the Scottish government for leaning away from fear and choosing #reconciliation instead. That they accepted all 6 recommendations and are putting their money where their mouth is, is a triumph. I'm also very happy to see a government that sees the value of heritage collections in promoting social wellbeing for all its citizens. This is what good leadership looks like. 👏

Civil War (1861-1865)? The American Civil War (1861-1865) was a defining conflict between the Northern states (Union) and the Southern states (Confederacy) primarily over the issue of slavery. The South seceded from the Union, aiming to preserve states' rights, including the right to own slaves, while the North aimed to preserve the Union and eventually abolish slavery. Key events like the Battle of Fort Sumter in 1861 marked the war's start. The conflict saw significant battles such as Gettysburg and Antietam, with Union victory ensuring the preservation of the nation and the abolition of slavery via the Emancipation Proclamation. The war ended with the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee to Union General Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House in 1865. The Civil War's aftermath involved Reconstruction efforts to rebuild the nation, address the status of formerly enslaved people, and reintegrate the Southern states into the Union. #csstudenthelp

Indipendency and unicity of conditions might help to sort out social, political and economical issues as well as trasparency on roles and rules, responsabilities, tasks and rewards. Whereas chaotical and messy accountancy and burocracy might leave space to criminals for grabbing "slices % of cakes", trasparency in procedures, agreements and connections would be the solution to not meritocratic, dispotic, slaveric and criminal intrusive systems..... AI, and similars are the main source and resource for criminal organizations. Individual Brains, culture, intellectual property belong just to the single human being, cannot be sold, shared, bought or extracted virtually or physically......Sincerely tired........ SD😉👍
Around the world, as many as 50 million people are trapped today in different forms of modern slavery, such as forced labour, trafficking in persons or domestic servitude. “Slavery is both a historic horror and a contemporary outrage,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres on Saturday's Abolition of Slavery Day. “Let’s right historic wrongs and build a world free from the abomination of slavery,” he added, urging to fight against modern slavery in all its forms. https://lnkd.in/eV29zQEq 📷: The "Ark of Return" at UNHQ honours the victims of slavery & highlights the legacy of the slave trade.

Did you know that today (March 25th) is the International Day of Remembrance for the victims of slavery and the Trans-Atlantic Slave trade? Here's what the UN website says For over 400 years, more than 15 million men, women and children were the victims of the tragic transatlantic slave trade, one of the darkest chapters in human history. The annual observance of 25 March as the International Day of Remembrance for the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade serves as an opportunity to honour and remember those who suffered and died at the hands of the brutal slavery system, and to raise awareness about the dangers of racism and prejudice today. https://lnkd.in/gffGfRx

Johan Galtung is credited with first introducing the concept of peacebuilding in 1975. He proposed that peace is about the abolition of structural violence and the root causes of war, such as oppression and domination, rather than being solely focused on eliminating direct violence or warfare. #YouthPeacebuilding #YouthPeace

Justice is the requirement for establishing Peace. Justice brings peace but in order for both to prevail, we must have strong institutions in place. So the equation is P = J+s(I) I.e. Peace (P) = Justice (J) + Strong Institutions (I).
