Typhoid conjugate vaccines (TCVs) are preferred over other #vaccine formulations for prevention of #typhoidfever in endemic areas. In a randomized trial of more than 28,000 children in Malawi, overall preventive efficacy of tetanus toxoid conjugate typhoid vaccine (Vi-TT) was 78 percent over four-year follow up. These findings support current guidance for typhoid vaccination in endemic areas and inform decisions regarding revaccination. 💉An inactivated vaccine is made by killing the disease-causing virus or bacteria and is administered via injection to trigger an immune response without causing illness. 📌Contain viruses or bacteria that have been killed, making them unable to cause disease. 📌Administered via injection, stimulating the body's immune response. 📌Examples include the flu shot, polio vaccine, and hepatitis A vaccine. 📌Suitable for most individuals, including those with weakened immune systems or allergies to live vaccines. 📌Provide effective protection against various infectious diseases. #vaccinescience #protectyourhealth #immunization #publichealth #prevention #stayhealthy

Inhaled vaccine prevents COVID in monkeys New study suggests boosters delivered to the lungs could stop infection. Current COVID-19 vaccines offer great protection from serious illness, but they don't prevent people from becoming infected in the first place. Because of this, researchers have been searching for ways to boost mucosal immunity — the immune response on mucosal surfaces — as this is where the virus is first encountered by the body. Now a team have shown that mucosal immunity can be improved enough to block infection in rhesus macaques by administering booster vaccines directly into their lungs, through inhalation. They hope this could offer a way to stop humans getting COVID-19 in the future. #InhaledVaccine #COVID19Prevention #MonkeysStudy #BoostingMucosalImmunity #RespiratoryProtection #NickPetricHowe #VaccineResearch #LungBooster #InhalationDelivery #MacaqueStudy #NaturePodcast #VirusInfectionPrevention #ImmuneResponse #MucosalSurfaces #COVID19News #RespiratoryHealth #VaccineInnovation #PublicHealth #DecemberResearch #MinistryOfHealthInfo #COVID19VaccineUpdate

Beijing has announced that it has started administering COVID vaccines targeting the XBB subvariants of Omicron to key groups. Eligible individuals include those aged 60 and above, or between 18 and 59 years with underlying health conditions, low immune function, or high risk of infection, who have either been infected with COVID-19 or received at least two doses of COVID-19 vaccines. The XBB subvariants of Omicron have become dominant globally, and vaccines containing antibodies to these subvariants are recommended for better efficacy. #AsiaRisk #EpidemicsandPandemics #China Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gmPtNUFT

As a career #immunologist, I am #provaccine but also recognize the limits and adverse outcomes. We collect more and more data about patients as we use these therapies more often. Overall, I feel that the benefits of effective vaccines far outweigh the risks. However, I also acknowledge that vaccines can fail. That's science in a nutshell. This article explores more reasons for vaccine ineffectiveness.
Some vaccines prevent disease—other don’t. Why is that? It’s complicated, with the virus (and how much it's spreading), vaccine type, host immune response and more playing a role. Learn more ➡️ https://brnw.ch/21wHLYy
